Pinpoint Test S: The Air Bag Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On

Normal Operation

The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) status from the Restraints Control Module (RCM) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus. If an SRS concern is detected, the RCM sets a DTC and sends a message to the IPC to turn on the air bag warning indicator.

If the SRS status message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the IPC defaults the air bag warning indicator to the last on/off state, based upon the last known good SRS status message received.

If the SRS status message is missing for more than 5 seconds, the IPC sets DTC U0151:00 and defaults the air bag warning indicator on.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- RCM
- IPC


PINPOINT TEST S: THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

S1 CARRY OUT THE IPC AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL


- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IPC DataLogger .
- Select the IPC air bag warning indicator (AIRBAG_LMP) active command. Command the air bag warning indicator on and off while observing the air bag warning indicator.
- Does the air bag warning indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?

Yes
GO to S2.

No
INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). TEST the system for normal operation.

S2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE RCM SELF-TEST


- Check for recorded DTCs from the RCM self-test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
REFER to Supplemental Restraint System Description and Operation.

No
GO to S3.

S3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC SELF-TEST


- Check for recorded DTCs from the IPC self-test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
For DTC U0151:00, GO to Pinpoint Test AZ. Pinpoint Tests AZ: DTC U0151:00

For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Charts.

No
INSTALL a new RCM. REFER to Supplemental Restraint System Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.
