Steering Wheel
Heated Steering Wheel
Pinpoint Test F: DTC U0140:00, U0164:00 and U0256:00
Normal Operation
- DTC U0140:00 (Lost Communication With Body Control Module: No Sub-Type Information)- sets in continuous memory in the Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM) if data messages received from the Body Control Module (BCM) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) are missing for 5 seconds or more. For a complete list of all network messages, refer to Information Bus.
- DTC U0164:00 (Lost Communication With HVAC Control Module: No Sub Type Information)- sets in continuous memory in the HSWM (Heated Steering Wheel Module) if data messages received from the HVAC module over the MS-CAN (Medium Speed Controller Area Network) are missing for 5 seconds or more. For a complete list of all network messages, refer to Information Bus.
- DTC U0256:00 (Lost Communication With Front Controls Interface Module "A": No Sub Type Information)- sets in continuous memory in the HSWM (Heated Steering Wheel Module) if data messages received from the Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM) over the MS-CAN (Medium Speed Controller Area Network) are missing for 5 seconds or more. For a complete list of all network messages, refer to Information Bus.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- BCM (Body Control Module)
- HVAC module
- FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module)
PINPOINT TEST F : DTC U0140:00, U0164:00 AND U0256:00
F1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN
- Ignition ON.
- Verify there is an observable symptom present.
Is an observable symptom present?
Yes
GO to F2.
No
The system is operating normally at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
F2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Carry out the network test.
Do all modules pass the network test?
Yes
GO to F3.
No
REFER to Information Bus.
F3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE BCM (Body Control Module), HVAC MODULE AND FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) SELF-TESTS
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test- Body Control Module (BCM).
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test- HVAC Module.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test- Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM).
- Record DTCs from the self-tests.
Is DTC U3003:16 or DTC U3003:17 recorded from the self-tests?
Yes
For BCM (Body Control Module) DTCs, REFER to Body Control Systems.
For HVAC module DTCs, REFER to Heating and Air Conditioning.
For FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module) DTCs, REFER to Accessories and Optional Equipment.
No
GO to F4.
F4 RECHECK THE HSWM (Heated Steering Wheel Module) MODULE DTCs
NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during the Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the PMI (Programmable Module Installation) may not have been carried out.
- Clear the DTCs.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Repeat the HSWM (Heated Steering Wheel Module) self-test.
Is DTC U0140:00, U0164:00 or U0256:00 still present?
Yes
For DTC U0140:00 and U0256:00,GO to F5.
For DTC U0164:00,GO to F6.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.
F5 CHECK FOR DTC U0140:00 OR U0256:00 SET IN OTHER MODULES
- Clear all DTCs.
- Ignition OFF.
- Ignition ON.
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Self-Test- Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM).
- Retrieve the continuous memory DTCs from all modules.
Is DTC U0140:00 or U0256:00 set in the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module)?
Yes
For DTC U0140:00, INSTALL a new BCM (Body Control Module). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
For DTC U0256:00, INSTALL a new FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
INSTALL a new HSWM (Heated Steering Wheel Module). REFER to Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM) Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.
F6 CHECK HVAC FUNCTIONS
- Operate the HVAC system from the controls on the FCIM (Front Controls Interface Module).
Does the HVAC system operate correctly?
Yes
INSTALL a new HSWM (Heated Steering Wheel Module). REFER to Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM) Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REFER to Heating and Air Conditioning and DIAGNOSE HVAC symptoms.
