NOTE: Rear bumper cover removed for clarity.

NOTE: Left rear quarter panel shown, right side similar.

Removal and Installation

1. NOTE: Module configuration is required when a new Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left (SOD-L) or Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right (SOD-R) is being installed. Upload the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) or SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) module configuration information to the scan tool. For additional information, refer to Programmable Module Installation (PMI) in Information Bus. Programming and Relearning

2. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.

3. Remove the 7 rear splash shield screws.

4. NOTE: The SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) and the SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) are not interchangeable. Make sure the replacement module is correct for the vehicle application.
Separate the rear bumper cover from the rear quarter panel and gently flex the rear bumper cover to access the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) or SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right).

- Remove the screw and washer.

- Disconnect the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) or SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) electrical connector.

5. Remove the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) or the SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right).

6. If removing the bracket, remove the rear lamp assembly.

7. Remove the 5 rivets and bracket.

8. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Download the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) or the SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) configuration information. For additional information, refer to Information Bus.

- NOTE: When enabling the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS(R)) and Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) system make sure to enable the systems in both the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) and the SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right). Failure to do so results in a mismatch system fault.
Verify in the programmable parameters that the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS(R)) and Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) system are enabled in the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) and SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right).

- After the SOD-L (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Left) or the SOD-R (Side Obstacle Detection Control Module - Right) is configured, shift the selector lever though all the transaxle gear positions (PRNDL).
