Transmission Fluid Cooler Tubes









Transmission Fluid Cooler Tubes









Removal

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.

2. Remove the front bumper cover.

3. Remove the air cleaner.

4. Remove the air cleaner outlet pipe.

5. Remove the battery.

6. Detach the transmission fluid cooler tubes from the transmission fluid cooler tube bracket.





7. Remove the transmission fluid cooler tube clip.





8. Cut the tie strap and remove the transmission fluid cooler tube insulation.





9. Remove the transmission fluid cooler return tube secondary latch.





10. Using the Transmission Cooler Line Disconnect Tool, disconnect the transmission fluid cooler return tube from the transmission fluid cooler.





11. Disconnect the transmission fluid cooler inlet tube from the transmission fluid cooler.





12. NOTE: LH side shown, RH side similar.
Remove the 2 upper radiator support bracket bolts.






13. Remove the LH upper radiator support bracket and insulator.





14. Disconnect the cooling fan electrical connector and position the wiring harness aside.





15. Remove the 2 transmission fluid cooler tube secondary latches from the transmission fluid cooler tubes at the transmission fluid thermal bypass valve.





16. Using the Transmission Cooler Line Disconnect Tool, disconnect the transmission return and inlet cooler tubes from the transmission fluid thermal bypass valve.





17. Remove the transmission return and inlet cooler tubes from the thermal bypass valve and transmission fluid cooler.

18. Remove and discard the 2 transmission fluid cooler tube bolts.





19. Loosen the 2 transmission fluid cooler tube nuts and remove the 2 transmission fluid cooler tubes from the transmission fluid thermal bypass valve and the transaxle.





20. Inspect the transaxle case to be sure that the transmission fluid cooler tube seals and backing rings were removed with the transmission fluid cooler tubes and are not stuck in the transaxle case. If the transmission fluid cooler tube seals or backing rings are stuck in the transaxle case, remove the seals and backing rings.





21. Remove the 2 nuts and the transmission fluid thermal bypass valve.





Installation

1. Position the transmission fluid thermal bypass valve in place and install the 2 nuts.
- Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).






2. Inspect the transmission fluid cooler tube backing rings and seals for damage and install new backing rings or seals if necessary. Lubricate the transmission fluid cooler tube seals with clean transmission fluid and install the backing rings and seals on the transmission fluid cooler tube assembly.

3. Position the 2 transmission fluid cooler tubes on the transaxle and tighten the 2 transmission fluid cooler tube nuts.
- Tighten to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).






4. Install 2 new transmission fluid cooler tube assembly bolts.
- Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).






5. Install the transmission return and inlet cooler tubes into the transmission fluid thermal bypass valve.





6. Install the 2 transmission fluid cooler tube secondary latches on the transmission return and inlet cooler tubes at the transmission fluid thermal bypass valve.





7. Position back the wiring harness and connect the cooling fan electrical connector.





8. Install the LH upper radiator support bracket and insulator.





9. Install the 2 upper radiator support bracket bolts.
- Tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).






10. Connect the transmission fluid cooler inlet tube to the transmission fluid cooler.
- Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).






11. Connect the transmission fluid cooler return tube to the transmission fluid cooler.





12. Install the transmission fluid cooler return tube secondary latch.





13. Install the transmission fluid cooler tube insulation and secure with a new tie strap.





14. Install the transmission fluid cooler tube clip.





15. Attach the transmission fluid cooler tubes to the transmission fluid cooler tube bracket.





16. Install the battery.

17. Install the air cleaner outlet pipe.

18. Install the air cleaner.

19. Install the front bumper cover.

20. Check the transmission fluid level and add transmission fluid as necessary.
