Pinpoint Test AH: The Ready Indicator Is Never/Always On (Hybrid)

Normal Operation

The purpose of the ready indicator is to inform the driver that the hybrid electric drivetrain is ready to operate. If the vehicle is not being driven and has the ignition key in the ON position with the internal combustion engine off, the ready indicator may be transitioned to the off state and requires that the ignition switch be cycled to the crank position to reset the indicator. The Instrument Cluster (IC) receives the electric drivetrain status from the PCM over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus. If the electric drivetrain status message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the electric drivetrain remains in the last indication mode (on or off). If the electric drivetrain status message is missing for more than 5 seconds, the IC sets DTC U0100 in continuous memory and defaults the ready indicator off.

NOTE: If DTC U0100 is set in the IC, other observable symptoms may be an inoperative speedometer, tachometer or odometer.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- PCM
- IC


PINPOINT TEST AH: THE READY INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON (HYBRID)

AH1 CARRY OUT THE IC WARNING LAMPS AND CHIME ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL

- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IC DataLogger.
- Select the IC all lamps (HEV_RDY_LMP) active command. Command all the lamps on. Observe the ready indicator.
- Does the ready indicator illuminate when commanded on?

Yes
GO to AH2.

No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.

AH2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE PCM KOEO SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded PCM DTCs from the Key ON Engine OFF (KOEO) self-test.
- Are any PCM DTCs recorded?

Yes
REFER to Computers and Control Systems Information.

No
GO to AH3.

AH3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IC DTCs from the self-test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
For DTC U0100, GO to Pinpoint Test AV. Pinpoint Tests AV: DTC U0100

For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Charts. Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes

No
INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to Electronic Engine Controls - Hybrid Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.
