WARNING: Before working on or disconnecting any of the fuel tubes or fuel system components, relieve the fuel system pressure to prevent accidental spraying of fuel. Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure, even when the engine is not running. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.
WARNING: When handling fuel, always observe fuel handling precautions and be prepared in the event of fuel spillage. Spilled fuel may be ignited by hot vehicle components or other ignition sources. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
WARNING: Always disconnect the battery ground cable at the battery when working on an evaporative emission (EVAP) system or fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Jacking and Lifting Service and Repair.
2. Drain the fuel tank. For additional information, refer to Fuel System - General Information Procedures.
3. Remove the exhaust muffler and resonator. For additional information, refer to Exhaust System - Exploded View in Exhaust System Muffler and Service and Repair.
All-Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles
4. Remove the rear driveshaft. For additional information, refer to Driveshaft Removal and Replacement.
All vehicles
5. Release the clamp and remove the fuel tank filler pipe hose from the fuel tank.
- To install, tighten to 4 Nm (35 lb-in).
6. Position a Powertrain Lift under the fuel tank.
7. Detach the parking brake cable pin-type retainer from the front of the LH fuel tank strap.
8. Detach the wire harness and fresh air tube pin-type retainers from the rear of LH fuel tank strap.
9. Remove the 2 bolts and position the 2 fuel tank straps aside.
- To install, tighten to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
10. Remove the 2 bolts and position the RR exhaust hanger aside.
- To install, tighten to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).
11. Partially lower the fuel tank enough to disconnect the fuel vapor tube assembly-to-fuel tank quick connect coupling. For additional information, refer to Fuel System - General Information Quick Connect Coupling.
12. Completely lower and remove the fuel tank from the vehicle.
13. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
