Pinpoint Test J: The Rear Video Mirror Display Is Always On (Vehicles Without Navigation)

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 131 (Escape/Mariner, Escape Hybrid/Mariner Hybrid) for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

For vehicles without navigation, with the gear selector in REVERSE (R) position, a reverse voltage signal is sent to the auto-dimming interior mirror and rear video camera supplying power to the system. The video camera signal is sent to the auto-dimming interior mirror. The video signal from the video camera displays an image on the LH side of the auto-dimming interior mirror.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Auto-dimming interior mirror


PINPOINT TEST J: THE REAR VIDEO MIRROR DISPLAY IS ALWAYS ON (VEHICLES WITHOUT NAVIGATION)

-------------------------------------------------
J1 CHECK THE REVERSING LAMPS OPERATION

- Check the operation of the reversing lamps.
- Do the reversing lamps operate correctly?

Yes
DISCONNECT any aftermarket trailer lighting equipment. GO to J2.

No
REFER to Exterior Lighting Testing and Inspection.

J2 CHECK THE AUTO-DIMMING INTERIOR MIRROR REVERSE INPUT CIRCUIT

- Disconnect: Auto-Dimming Interior Mirror C9039.
- Measure the voltage between the auto-dimming interior mirror C9039-2, circuit CBB07 (GN/BU), harness side and ground.





- Is any voltage present?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to J3.

J3 CHECK FOR CORRECT AUTO-DIMMING INTERIOR MIRROR DISPLAY OPERATION

- Disconnect the auto-dimming interior mirror display connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the auto-dimming interior mirror display connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new auto-dimming interior mirror. REFER to Rear View Mirrors Interior Rear View Mirror. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
