Pinpoint Test Y: The LH/RH Turn Indicator Is Never/Always On

Normal Operation

When the multifunction switch is in the LH or RH TURN position, a message is sent to the Instrument Cluster (IC) from the Smart Junction Box (SJB) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) communication bus. The IC upon receipt of the LH or RH turn message, flashes the LH or RH turn signal indicator on and off.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- SJB
- IC


PINPOINT TEST Y: THE LH/RH TURN INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

Y1 CHECK THE LH OR RH TURN SIGNAL LAMPS OPERATION

- Ignition ON.
- Operate the LH or RH turn signal. Observe the exterior LH or RH turn lamps.
- Do the turn signal lamps operate correctly?

Yes
GO to Y2.

No
REFER to Exterior Lighting Testing and Inspection.

Y2 CARRY OUT THE IC INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IC DataLogger.
- Select the IC RH or LH turn signal indicator (RH_TURN_L) or (LH_TURN_L) active command. Command the RH or LH turn signal indicator on and off. Observe the LH or RH turn signal indicator.
- Does the LH or RH turn signal indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?

Yes
GO to Y3.

No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.

Y3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IC DTCs from the self-test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
For DTC U0140, GO to Pinpoint Test BC. Pinpoint Tests BC: DTC U0140

For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Charts. Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes

No
INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.
