Halfshaft









NOTE: LH halfshaft shown, RH similar.











Disassembly

1. Remove the halfshaft assembly. For additional information, refer to Halfshaft [1][2]Front Drive Halfshafts.

2. Clamp the halfshaft in a soft-jawed vise.

1. Remove and discard the 2 inner boot clamps.

2. Remove the inner CV joint housing.





3. Push back the boot along the shaft.

4. Remove the snap ring.





5. Using a suitable 3-jaw puller, remove the tripod.





6. Remove and discard the inner CV joint boot.





Assembly

NOTICE: The inner joint must not be bent at more than 18 degrees; the outer joint must not be bent at more than 45 degrees or damage to the component my occur.

NOTICE: Use care not to damage the boot or component damage may occur.

1. Install the new CV joint boot.





2. Using the Constant Velocity Joint Boot Clamp Installer, install the new CV joint boot retaining inner clamp.





3. NOTICE: Do not damage the tripod joint roller bearings or component damage may occur.

Install the tripod on the inboard end of the shaft.

- Using a suitable driver, push the tripod onto the front drive halfshaft far enough for the snap ring to be installed.





4. Install the new snap ring.





5. Install half of the sachet of grease into the tripod housing. Inject the other half of the grease into the boot.

6. NOTICE: Use care not to damage the boot or component damage may occur.

Install the tripod joint into the tripod housing.

1. Insert a small flat-blade screwdriver under the boot seat to allow the air to escape.

2. Slide the tripod joint in as far as it will go, then pull it out 20 mm (0.787 in).

- Remove the screwdriver.





7. Using the Constant Velocity Joint Boot Clamp Installer, install the new CV joint boot retaining outer clamp.





8. Install the halfshaft assembly. For additional information, refer to Halfshaft [1][2]Front Drive Halfshafts.
