Principles of Operation

NOTE: The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).

The perimeter anti-theft system provides vehicle security through an audible and visual notification if the vehicle doors, hood or liftgate/liftgate glass are opened without the system being disarmed. The system arms when:

- the doors, hood and the liftgate/liftgate glass are closed.
- the key is in the OFF position.
- the vehicle is electronically locked using the Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT) key, the keyless entry keypad (if equipped), or the driver door lock control switch (with the driver door open, then closed).

The door ajar switches, hood switch and the liftgate/liftgate glass ajar switches are monitored by the SJB, and provide a signal to the SJB as being normally closed. If these switches indicate an open entry point, the SJB energizes the horn and flasher relays, causing the horn to sound and the turn signal lamps to flash.

If the vehicle is equipped with a Liftgate/Trunk Module (LTM), the liftgate latch ajar switch is integral to the LTM and this information is provided to the SJB from the LTM over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN). The remainder of the liftgate/liftgate glass ajar circuitry is the same as vehicles not equipped with an LTM.
