Pinpoint Test AC: The Rear Audio Controls Are Inoperative/Do Not Operate Correctly

Normal Operation

When a button is pressed on the audio Rear Control Unit (RCU) module, a signal is sent over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) to the modules in the audio system.

- DTC B2924 (Audio Button Stuck) - sets in continuous memory when an audio RCU module button is stuck for longer than 2 minutes, or during the on-demand self-test if an audio RCU module hard button is detected as active for any duration. Make sure no audio RCU module buttons are pressed during the self-test.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Communication network concern
- Audio RCU module

AC1 CHECK FOR LOST COMMUNICATION DTCs


NOTE: Audio system lost communication DTCs include U0184, U0184:00, U0193, U0193:00, U0197, U0197:00, U0249, and U0249:00.

- Using the scan tool, retrieve all continuous DTCs from all modules.
- Are audio system lost communication DTCs present in any module?

Yes
REFER to DTC Charts. Diagnostic Trouble Code Tests and Associated Procedures

No
GO to AC2.

AC2 CHECK FOR DTC B2924


- Ignition ON.
- Clear the audio RCU module DTCs.
- Wait 3 minutes.
- Repeat the audio RCU module self-test, making sure that no buttons are pressed during the test.
- Is DTC B2924 set in the audio RCU module?

Yes
INSTALL a new audio RCU module. REFER to Audio Rear Control Unit (RCU) Module Audio Rear Control Unit (RCU) Module. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to AC3.

AC3 CHECK FOR CORRECT AUDIO RCU MODULE OPERATION


- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect the audio RCU module connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the audio RCU module connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new audio RCU module. REFER to Audio Rear Control Unit (RCU) Module Audio Rear Control Unit (RCU) Module. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
