Instrument Cluster (IC)
NOTE: Navigator shown, Expedition similar.
Removal
NOTE: If installing a new IC, all vehicle keys are erased during the parameter reset procedure. Verify at least 2 of the vehicle keys are available prior to carrying out this procedure.
All vehicles
1. If installing a new Instrument Cluster (IC), upload the IC configuration information to the scan tool. For additional information, refer to Module Configuration Programmable Module Installation (PMI), Programmable Module Installation (PMI).
2. Lower the steering column to the lowest position.
3. Remove the 3 screws and the lower steering column cover.
- Disconnect the electrical connector for the brake pedal switch (if equipped).

6. If installing a new IC, upload the IC configuration information to the scan tool. For additional information, refer to Module Configuration Programmable Module Installation (PMI), PMI.
7. NOTE: If a new IC is installed, the IC and the PCM require a parameter reset to allow the IC and the PCM to recognize each other. Failure to carry out the parameter reset to the IC and the PCM results in a no start condition. Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) Parameter Reset
NOTE: If equipped, the vehicle's Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) keys must be programmed to the new IC.
Carry out the parameter reset and key programming procedure. For additional information, refer to Anti-Theft - Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT) Key Programming Using Diagnostic Equipment Key Programming Using Two Programmed Keys.
