WATER LEAK FROM THE REAR LIFTGATE GLASS

ISSUE
Some 2010-2012 Expedition and Navigator vehicles may exhibit a water leak from the liftgate glass weatherstrip.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Perform a water leak test on the rear liftgate glass area. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-00.
2. Is the water leak source coming from the liftgate glass weatherstrip?
a. Yes - Proceed to Step 3.
b. No - This procedure does not apply. Refer to WSM, Section 501-00.
3. Inspect the liftgate glass weatherstrip:
a. If the liftgate glass weatherstrip is damaged, replace it.
b. Inspect the liftgate glass seal for a loose fit, misalignment, and improper installation. If a concern with fit is noted remove the weatherstrip and pinch the seal carrier to improve retention on the seal flange and reinstall. (Figure 1)
4. Clean the inside of the liftgate glass with an isopropyl alcohol wipe.
5. Ensure inside of the glass is dry, using a clean cloth or polyester felt applicator. Apply LORD Chemlok(R) Primer and let stand for 3 minutes.
6. Remove the adhesive backer from the new margin seal and install on the interior side along the length of the glass a maximum of 1 mm (1/32") down from the top of the glass. (Figure 2)
7. To ensure proper adhesion press along the entire length of the seal using moderate thumb pressure.
a. It is recommended to keep the new seal clean and dry for a minimum of 24 hours after installation.
