Pinpoint Test Y: No High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) Communication, All Modules Are Not Responding

Normal Operation
The High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) uses an unshielded twisted pair cable.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- 4X4 control module (if equipped)
- ABS module
- Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) (if equipped)
- Body Control Module (BCM)
- Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)
- Occupant Classification System (OCS) module
- Parking Aid Module (PAM) (if equipped)
- PCM
- Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) (if equipped)
- Restraints Control Module (RCM)
- Steering Column Control Module (SCCM)
- Telematics module
- Trailer Brake Control (TBC) module (if equipped)
PINPOINT TEST Y: NO HS-CAN COMMUNICATION, ALL MODULES ARE NOT RESPONDING
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
NOTE: Most faults are due to connector and/or wiring concerns. Carry out a thorough inspection and verification before proceeding with the pinpoint test. Inspection and Verification
NOTE: Failure to disconnect the battery when instructed results in false resistance readings. Refer to Battery, Mounting and Cables Battery Disconnect.

Y1 CHECK THE DLC PINS FOR DAMAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect the scan tool cable from the Data Link Connector (DLC).
- Inspect the DLC pins 6 and 14 for damage.
- Are DLC pins 6 and 14 OK?
Yes
GO to Y2.
No
REPAIR the DLC as necessary. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.

Y2 CHECK THE HS-CAN TERMINATION RESISTANCE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable.
- Measure the resistance between the DLC C251-6, circuit VDB04 (WH/BU), harness side and the DLC C251-14, circuit VDB05 (WH), harness side.
- Is the resistance between 54 and 66 ohms?
Yes
GO to Y11.
No
GO to Y3.

Y3 CHECK THE HS-CAN TERMINATION RESISTOR
- Measure the resistance between the DLC C251-6, circuit VDB04 (WH/BU), harness side and the DLC C251-14, circuit VDB05 (WH), harness side.
- Is the resistance between 108 and 132 ohms?
Yes
GO to Y4.
No
GO to Y8.

Y4 CHECK THE HS-CAN TERMINATION RESISTOR WITH THE PCM DISCONNECTED
- Disconnect: PCM C175B (3.7L), C1551B (3.5L), or C1381B (5.0L and 6.2L).
- Measure the resistance between the DLC C251-6, circuit VDB04 (WH/BU), harness side and the DLC C251-14, circuit VDB05 (WH), harness side.
- Is the resistance between 108 and 132 ohms?
Yes
For 3.7L, 5.0L or 6.2L, GO to Y5. For 3.5L, GO to Y6.
No
GO to Y7.

Y5 CHECK THE HS-CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE PCM AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between the PCM C175B-59 (3.7L) or C1381B-59 (5.0L and 6.2L), circuit VDB04 (WH/BU), harness side and the DLC C251-6, circuit VDB04 (WH/BU), harness side.
- Measure the resistance between the PCM C175B-58 (3.7L) or C1381B-58 (5.0L and 6.2L), circuit VDB05 (WH), harness side and the DLC C251-14, circuit VDB05 (WH), harness side.
- Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes
CONNECT the negative battery cable. GO to Y35.
No
REPAIR the circuit in question. CONNECT the negative battery cable. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.

Y6 CHECK THE HS-CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE PCM AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between the PCM C1551B-69, circuit VDB04 (WH/BU), harness side and the DLC C251-6, circuit VDB04 (WH/BU), harness side.
- Measure the resistance between the PCM C1551B-68, circuit VDB05 (WH), harness side and the DLC C251-14, circuit VDB05 (WH), harness side.
- Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes
CONNECT the negative battery cable. GO to Y35.
No
REPAIR the circuit in question. CONNECT the negative battery cable. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.

Y7 CHECK THE HS-CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE DLC AND THE BCM FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: BCM C2280F.
- Measure the resistance between the BCM C2280F-16, circuit VDB04 (WH/BU), harness side and the Data Link Connector (DLC) C251-6, circuit VDB06 (WH), harness side.
- Measure the resistance between the BCM C2280F-17, circuit VDB05 (WH), harness side and the DLC C251-14, circuit VDB05 (WH), harness side.
- Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes
CONNECT the negative battery cable. GO to Y30.
No
REPAIR the circuit in question. CONNECT the negative battery cable. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.

Y8 CHECK THE HS-CAN (+) AND HS-CAN (-) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER
- Measure the resistance between the DLC C251-6, circuit VDB04 (WH/BU), harness side and the DLC C251-14, circuit VDB05 (WH), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to Y10.
No
GO to Y9.

Y9 CHECK THE HS-CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE PCM AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between the DLC C251-6, circuit VDB04 (WH/BU), harness side and the DLC C251-14, circuit VDB05 (WH), harness side.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
REPAIR the DLC or the circuit in question. CONNECT all modules. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.
No
A capacitor internal to a module may still be draining, causing irregular resistance readings. WAIT 5 minutes. REPEAT the pinpoint test.

Y10 CHECK THE HS-CAN (+) AND HS-CAN (-) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER
- While measuring the resistance between the DLC C251-6, circuit VDB04 (WH/BU), harness side and the DLC C251-14, circuit VDB05 (WH), harness side, disconnect the following modules one at a time until the resistance is greater than 5 ohms.
- 4X4 control module C2371A (if equipped)
- APIM C2383 (if equipped)
- ABS module C135
- BCM C2280F
- IPC C220
- OCS module C3159
- PAM C2023 (if equipped)
- PSCM C1463B (if equipped)
- PCM C175B, C1381B or C1551B
- RCM C310B
- SCCM C2414A
- Telematics module C2409 (if equipped)
- TBC module C2142 (if equipped)
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
CONNECT the negative battery cable. For the 4X4 control module, GO to Y27. For the APIM, GO to Y28. For the ABS module, GO to Y29. For the BCM, GO to Y30. For the IPC, GO to Y31. For the OCS module, GO to Y32. For the PAM, GO to Y33. For the PSCM, GO to Y34. For the PCM, GO to Y35. For the RCM, GO to Y36. For the SCCM, GO to Y37. For the telematics module, GO to Y39. For the TBC module, GO to Y38.
No
REPAIR circuits VDB04 (WH/BU) and VDB05 (WH) for being shorted together. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the Network Test with the scan tool.

Y11 CHECK THE HS-CAN (+) AND HS-CAN (-) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between the DLC C251-6, circuit VDB04 (WH/BU), harness side and ground; and between the DLC C251-14, circuit VDB05 (WH), harness side and ground.
- Are the resistances greater than 1,000 ohms?
Yes
CONNECT the negative battery cable. GO to Y12.
No
GO to Y13.

Y12 CHECK THE HS-CAN (+) AND HS-CAN (-) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between the DLC C251-6, circuit VDB04 (WH/BU), harness side and ground; and between the DLC C251-14, circuit VDB05 (WH), harness side and ground.
- Are the voltages greater than 6 volts?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.
No
GO to Y14.

Y13 CHECK THE HS-CAN (+) AND HS-CAN (-) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND WITH THE MODULES DISCONNECTED
- While measuring the resistance between the DLC C251-6, circuit VDB04 (WH/BU), harness side and ground; and between the DLC C251-14, circuit VDB05 (WH), harness side and ground, check for the short to ground on both circuits after disconnecting each module. Disconnect the following modules one at a time until the resistance to ground is greater than 10,000 ohms.
- 4X4 control module C2371A (if equipped)
- APIM C2383 (if equipped)
- ABS module C135
- BCM C2280F
- IPC C220
- OCS module C3159
- PAM C2023 (if equipped)
- PSCM C1463B (if equipped)
- PCM C175B, C1381B or C1551B
- RCM C310B
- SCCM C2414A
- Telematics module C2409 (if equipped)
- TBC module C2142 (if equipped)
- Are the resistances greater than 1,000 ohms?
Yes
CONNECT the negative battery cable. For the 4X4 control module, GO to Y27. For the APIM, GO to Y28. For the ABS module, GO to Y29. For the BCM, GO to Y30. For the IPC, GO to Y31. For the OCS module, GO to Y32. For the PAM, GO to Y33. For the PSCM, GO to Y34. For the PCM, GO to Y35. For the RCM, GO to Y36. For the SCCM, GO to Y37. For the telematics module, GO to Y39. For the TBC module, GO to Y38.
No
REPAIR the circuit in question. CONNECT all modules. CONNECT the negative battery cable. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the Network Test with the scan tool.

Y14 CHECK FOR RESTORED COMMUNICATION WITH THE PCM DISABLED
- Disconnect: Battery Junction Box (BJB) Fuses 26 (10A) and 75 (15A) (25A for 3.5L engine).
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Repeat the network test.
- Do all other HS-CAN modules pass the network test?
Yes
INSTALL the removed fuses.
GO to Pinpoint Test A. Pinpoint Test A: The PCM Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool
No
If the vehicle is equipped with a Power Steering Control Module (PSCM), GO to Y15.
If the vehicle is not equipped with a Power Steering Control Module (PSCM), GO to Y16.

Y15 CHECK FOR RESTORED NETWORK COMMUNICATION WITH THE PSCM DISABLED
- Disconnect: Battery Junction Box (BJB) Fuse 52 (5A).
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Repeat the network test.
- Do all other HS-CAN modules pass the network test?
Yes
INSTALL the removed fuse. GO to Pinpoint Test H. Pinpoint Test H: The Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool
No
GO to Y16.

Y16 CHECK FOR RESTORED NETWORK COMMUNICATION WITH THE 4X4 CONTROL MODULE AND ABS MODULE DISABLED
- Disconnect: BJB Fuses 20 (20A)( ESOF only), 54 (5A) and 68 (25A).
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Repeat the network test.
- Do all other HS-CAN modules pass the network test?
Yes
INSTALL the removed fuses.
If the vehicle is equipped with a 4X4 control module, GO to Y17.
If the vehicle is not equipped with a 4X4 control module, GO to Pinpoint Test B. Pinpoint Test B: The ABS Module Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool
No
INSTALL the removed fuses. GO to Y18.

Y17 CHECK FOR RESTORED NETWORK COMMUNICATION WITH THE 4X4 CONTROL MODULE DISCONNECTED
- Disconnect: 4X4 Control Module C2371A.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Repeat the network test.
- Do all other HS-CAN modules pass the network test?
Yes
CONNECT the 4X4 control module. GO to Pinpoint Test F. Pinpoint Test F: The 4X4 Control Module Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool
No
CONNECT the 4X4 control module. GO to Pinpoint Test B. Pinpoint Test B: The ABS Module Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool

Y18 CHECK FOR RESTORED NETWORK COMMUNICATION WITH THE RCM AND OCS MODULE DISABLED
- Disconnect: Body Control Module (BCM) Fuse 36 (10A).
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Repeat the network test.
- Do all other HS-CAN modules pass the network test?
Yes
INSTALL the removed fuse. GO to Y19. GO to Pinpoint Test D. Pinpoint Test D: The Restraints Control Module (RCM) Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool
No
INSTALL the removed fuse. If the vehicle is equipped with a PAM, GO to Y20.
If the vehicle is not equipped with a PAM, GO to Y21.

Y19 CHECK FOR RESTORED NETWORK COMMUNICATION WITH THE RCM AND OCS MODULE DISCONNECTED
- Disconnect: RCM C310B.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Disconnect: OCS module C3159.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Repeat the network test.
- Do all other HS-CAN modules pass the network test?
Yes
INSTALL the removed fuse. For restored operation with the RCM disconnected, GO to Pinpoint Test D. For restored operation with the OCS disconnected, GO to Pinpoint Test E. Pinpoint Test D: The Restraints Control Module (RCM) Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool Pinpoint Test E: The Occupant Classification System (OCS) Module Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool
No
GO to Y20.

Y20 CHECK FOR RESTORED NETWORK COMMUNICATION WITH THE PAM DISABLED
- Disconnect: Body Control Module (BCM) Fuse 34 (10A).
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- Repeat the network test.
- Do all other HS-CAN modules pass the network test?
Yes
INSTALL the removed fuse. GO to Pinpoint Test R. Pinpoint Test R: The Parking Aid Module (PAM) Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool
No
GO to Y20.
