Pinpoint Test BF: The Low Fuel Message Center Indicator Is Never/Always On

Normal Operation

The low fuel message center indicator illuminates when the remaining fuel level is 1/16 tank (with an administrator key) or 1/8 tank (with a MyKey(R) programmed key) or less.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Fuel gauge indication concern
- IPC

PINPOINT TEST BF: THE LOW FUEL MESSAGE CENTER INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

BF1 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER WARNING INDICATOR FUNCTION

- Close all doors, hood and liftgate.
- Ignition ON.

- NOTE: If multiple warnings are present, the message center cycles through each of the warning indicators. Allow the message center to cycle through each display while determining whether the door ajar message center warning indicator is active.

- Open the driver door while monitoring the door ajar message center warning indicator.
- Does the driver door ajar message center warning indicator turn off with the driver door closed and illuminate with the driver door open?

Yes
GO to BF2.

No
INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). TEST the system for normal operation.

BF2 CHECK THE FUEL GAUGE OPERATION

- Verify the fuel gauge is operating correctly and is not registering empty (E) or full (F) all the time.
- Does the fuel gauge operate correctly?

Yes
GO to BF3

No
GO to Pinpoint Test B. Pinpoint Test B: All Dimmable Non-Networked Illumination Is Inoperative

BF3 CHECK THE DTE REMAINING MILEAGE DISPLAYED

- Enter the dealer test mode. Refer to Dealer Test Mode in Inspection and Verification. Inspection and Verification

- NOTE: The display below uses xxxx's to represent a numeric or alpha-numeric value. The value may display the same amount of characters represented by the xxxx's or there may be more/less depending on the input value.

- Scroll through the displays until FUEL LEVEL% STATUS xxx (base IPC) or FUEL LVL FILT FLPS IN xxxx (optional IPC) is displayed
- Does the fuel level value indicate 41 (with a MyKey(R)) or 26 (with an administrator programmed key) or less?

Yes
If the low fuel message center indicator is never on, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). TEST the system for normal operation. If the low fuel message center warning indicator is always on, the system is operating correctly at this time.

No
If the low fuel message center warning indicator is always on, INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). TEST the system for normal operation. If the low fuel message center warning indicator is never on, the system is operating correctly at this time. The low fuel message center indicator illuminates when the fuel level is at or below 1/16 tank (with an administrator key) or 1/8 tank (with MyKey(R) programmed key).
