Selector Lever Cable Adjustment - Column Shift

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Jacking and Lifting Service and Repair.

2. Move the selector lever into the (D) position.

3. If equipped, remove the nut and the selector lever cable splash shield.





4. If equipped, remove the heat shield.





5. NOTICE: To prevent selector lever cable damage, do not apply force to the selector lever cable between the manual control lever and the selector lever cable bracket.

Remove the selector lever cable from the manual control lever.





6. NOTE: Make sure the cable moves freely.

With the selector lever cable end removed from the manual control lever, unlock the lock tab on the selector lever cable by sliding it up.





7. Place the manual control lever in the (D) position.
- Rotate the manual control lever counterclockwise 3 detents into the manual 1st position.

- Rotate the manual control lever clockwise 3 detents into the (D) position.





8. NOTE: Apply pressure to the selector lever cable end while installing it onto the manual control lever and make sure the selector lever and manual control lever has not moved out of the (D) position.

Install the selector lever cable onto the manual control lever.

- Listen for the audible click.

- Pull back on the selector lever cable to make sure it is correctly installed.





9. Lock the selector lever cable lock tab into place by pressing the lock tab down.





10. NOTE: Install a new heat shield if it is loose on the cable.

If equipped, install the heat shield.





11. If equipped, install the selector lever cable splash shield and the nut.
- Tighten to 12 Nm (106 lb-in).





12. Verify the vehicle will start in PARK or NEUTRAL and the backup lamps illuminate in REVERSE. If not, the selector lever cable adjustment steps must be repeated.
- Readjust if necessary.
