Warning Chimes

Warning Chimes

The warning chimes are designed to provide the driver with an audible warning that acts as a supplemental alert. The only deviation from this strategy is the air bag chime which is used to alert the driver that the primary alerting system (air bag warning indicator) does not operate. The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) controls all warning chimes based on messages received from external modules.

The warning device system consists of the following:

- IPC
- Key-in-ignition warning switch (part of the ignition switch)
- Parking brake warning indicator switch
- ABS module
- Body Control Module (BCM)
- PCM
- Restraints Control Module (RCM)

The following chimes are controlled by the IPC:

- Air bag warning
- Belt-Minder(R)
- Diesel exhaust fluid level low
- Diesel exhaust over-temperature
- Door ajar
- Headlamps on
- Key-in-ignition
- Memory feedback
- Message center
- Parking brake applied
- Perimeter alarm
- Safety belt warning (driver side only)
- Service AdvanceTrac(R)
- Turn signal left on
- Turn signal/hazard on
