Pinpoint Test A: The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Is Inoperative

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 60, Instrument Cluster for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives a hot at all times voltage from the Body Control Module (BCM) fuse 11 (10A). The IPC uses a RUN/START input messaged from the BCM over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Fuse
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Communication concern
- IPC

PINPOINT TEST A: THE IPC IS INOPERATIVE

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

-------------------------------------------------
A1 CHECK THE IPC HOT AT ALL TIMES VOLTAGE SUPPLY

- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: IPC C220.
- Measure the voltage between the IPC C220-6, circuit SBP11 (BU/RD or YE/RD), harness side and ground.

- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
GO to A2.

No
VERIFY the BCM fuse 11 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR circuit SBP11 (BU/RD or YE/RD) for an open. If not OK, REFER to the Wiring Diagrams to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. TEST the system for normal operation. Diagrams By Number

-------------------------------------------------
A2 CHECK THE IPC GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

- Measure the voltage between the IPC C220-6, circuit SBP11 (BU/RD or YE/RD), harness side and the IPC C220-22, circuit GD184 (BK/GY or BK/YE), harness side.

- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
GO to A3.

No
REPAIR circuit GD184 (BK/GY or BK/YE) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
A3 VERIFY THE IPC PASSES THE NETWORK TEST

- Connect: IPC C220.
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: Network Test.
- In the LH pane of the Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) network test display screen, verify whether the IPC passed the network test.
- Did the IPC pass the network test?

Yes
GO to A4.

No
REFER to Module Communications Network Testing and Inspection to diagnose the IPC does not respond to the scan tool.

-------------------------------------------------
A4 CHECK FOR CORRECT IPC OPERATION

- Disconnect the IPC connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the IPC connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new IPC. REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC). TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
