Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes / With Manufacturer's Scan Tool

CLEAR THE CONTINUOUS DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) AND RESET THE EMISSION MONITORS INFORMATION IN THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)

The clearing of continuous DTCs allows the scan tool to command the PCM to clear and reset all emission-related diagnostic information. Clearing the DTCs from the vehicle-specific continuous memory DTC menu clears all systems, including the OBD systems. Clearing the DTCs from the OBD generic menu only clears OBD features.

Description
The following events occur when the continuous DTCs and emission monitors information is cleared from the PCM:
- Clears the number of DTCs.
- Clears the DTCs.
- Clears the freeze frame data.
- Resets the status of the OBD system monitors.

Refer to the scan tool manufacturers manual for instructions.

Clearing the PCM Adaptive Tables
Clearing the PCM adaptive tables is a scan tool function that resets the PCM memory to its default settings. Reset the PCM adaptive tables when repairs are made on any of the following systems:
- Oil Service Counter
- Water in Fuel Counter
- MAF Sensor
- Fuel System - High Pressure Side
- Min. Fuel Mass Adaptation - All Cylinders
- Nitrogen Oxide
- Oxidation Catalyst
- Crankshaft Position Sensor

After clearing the PCM adaptive tables, the vehicle may exhibit certain driveability concerns. It is necessary to drive the vehicle to allow the PCM to relearn the values for optimum driveability and performance.

The clear function for the PCM adaptive tables may not be supported by all scan tools. Refer to the scan tool manufacturers manual for instructions on the scan tool setup, operation, and specific cables and adapters required.
