Pinpoint Test D: No Power in START
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 13, Power Distribution/BCM for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number
Normal Operation
When the ignition switch is placed in the START position, fused ignition voltage is sent to the internal logic of the Body Control Module (BCM) via the start and run/start circuits and the PCM via the start circuit. When the PCM receives voltage from the start circuit, it provides a voltage and ground to the starter relay coil circuits to activate the starter relay. Once the starter relay is activated, voltage is supplied to the starter solenoid through Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse 89 (40A).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Ignition switch
- BCM
PINPOINT TEST D: NO POWER IN START
NOTICE: Use the Flex Probe Kit for all test connections to prevent damage to the wiring terminals. Do not use standard multi-meter probes.
-------------------------------------------------
D1 CHECK THE IGNITION SWITCH
- Carry out the Ignition Switch Component Test.
- Is the ignition switch OK?
Yes
REINSTALL the ignition switch and CONNECT the ignition switch connector if removed during the component test. GO to D2.
No
INSTALL a new ignition switch. REFER to Ignition Switch Ignition Switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
-------------------------------------------------
D2 CHECK THE START CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: PCM C175B.
- Disconnect: BCM C2280B.
- With the ignition switch in the START position, measure the voltage between ground and:
- BCM C2280B-47, circuit CDC35 (BU/WH), harness side.
- PCM C175B-16, circuit CDC35 (BU/WH), harness side.
- Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?
Yes
For gasoline engines, REFER to Starting System - Gasoline Engines Testing and Inspection to diagnose the starting system.
For diesel engines, REFER to Starting System - Diesel Engine Testing and Inspection to diagnose the starting system.
No
REPAIR circuit CDC35 (BU/WH). TEST the system for normal operation.
