Removal and Installation
NOTE: The coolant pump, pulley and housing are replaced as an assembly.
All vehicles
1. Drain the secondary cooling system. For additional information, refer to Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding Powertrain Secondary Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding.
2. Remove the cooling fan. For additional information, refer to Engine Cooling - Diesel Engine Cooling Fan.
3. Remove the 4 nuts and position the cooling fan stator aside.
- To install, tighten to 17 Nm (150 lb-in).
Vehicles with Dual Generators
4. Disconnect the batteries. For additional information, refer to Battery, Mounting and Cables Battery Disconnect / Connect.
5. Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise and detach the accessory drive belt from the generator and coolant pump pulleys.
6. Remove the bolt and the accessory drive belt idler pulley.
- To install, tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).
7. Remove the 2 generator bolts and position the generator aside.
- To install, tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).
Vehicles with a Single Generator
8. Rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner clockwise and detach the accessory drive belt from the secondary coolant pump pulley.
All vehicles
9. Remove the cooling fan stator standoff from the secondary coolant pump.
- To install, tighten to 22 Nm (16 lb-ft).
10. Remove the bolt and the accessory drive belt tensioner.
- To install, tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
11. NOTE: The quick connect coupling illustrated is to show the spring clip release location only. The quick connect coupling on the hose may differ.
Pull the degas bottle-to-coolant pump hose spring clip up until the end of the clip is in the detent on the quick connect coupling. Disconnect the degas bottle-to-coolant pump hose from the secondary coolant pump.
- To install, push the spring clip in place and connect the degas bottle-to-coolant pump hose quick connect coupling, making sure the coupling is secure.
12. NOTE: The quick connect coupling illustrated is to show the spring clip release location only. The quick connect coupling on the hose may differ.
Pull the coolant pump-to-radiator hose spring clip up until the end of the clip is in the detent on the quick connect coupling. Disconnect the coolant pump-to-radiator hose from the secondary coolant pump.
- To install, push the spring clip in place and connect the coolant pump-to-radiator hose quick connect coupling, making sure the coupling is secure.
13. Remove the 4 bolts and the secondary coolant pump, the pulley and the housing.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
14. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
15. NOTICE: Evaluate the cooling system condition before filling the cooling system. Failure to follow these instructions can damage the cooling system.
Evaluate the cooling system condition. For additional information, refer to Cooling System Condition Evaluation Powertrain Secondary Cooling System Condition Evaluation.
