SLOW FUEL FILL

FORD:
2011 Fiesta

ISSUE
Some 2011 Fiesta vehicles may exhibit a slow fuel fill concern. Typical customer complaint is the fueling station nozzle shutting off after approximately 3.8L (1 gallon).

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

This may be due to a restriction in the natural vacuum leak detection (NVLD) module assembly.

1. Visually inspect the evaporative emission tubing between the vapor canister and the fuel tank for kinks.

a. If kinks are found, discontinue with this procedure. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-13 for proper routing of the tubing. Repair as needed.

b. If no kinks are found, proceed to Step 2.

2. Replace the NVLD module. Refer to WSM, Section 303-13.

NOTE
ALL PARTS IN NVLD MODULE AND HOSE ASSEMBLY SERVICE KIT MUST BE INSTALLED. FAILURE TO REPLACE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY MAY RESULT IN REPEAT REPAIR FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE P0456.

NOTE
SLOW FUEL FILL CONCERN MAY OCCUR AFTER USING SMOKE MACHINE TO TEST FOR EVAPORATIVE EMISSION LEAK IF SMOKE IS ROUTED THROUGH NVLD MODULE ASSEMBLY. REFER TO WSM, SECTION 303-13 EVAPORATIVE EMISSION SYSTEM LEAK TEST FOR PROPER SMOKE MACHINE ATTACHMENT POINT.
