MIL WITH DTC U029F AND/OR NO CRANK WITH FUSE F27 OPEN IN BJB

2011 Fiesta

This article supersedes TSB 11-5-21 to remove the production fix date, update the Service Procedure and Part List.

ISSUE
Some 2011 Fiesta vehicles may exhibit a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) U029F set in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and/or a no crank condition with no communication with the PCM.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Disconnect battery. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 414-01.

2. Inspect fuse F27 in the Battery Junction Box (BJB) for a possible open condition. Replace fuse as required. Refer to Wiring Diagram, Section 11-1.

3. Remove rear seat cushion. Refer to WSM, Section 501-10.

4. Determine vehicle build date. Is date on or before 3/29/2011?

a. Yes - Install in-line fuse included with Natural Vacuum Leak Detection (NVLD) service kit. Follow installation instructions included with kit.





b. No - Inspect in-line NVLD fuse. (Figure 1)

(1) Fuse open - Replace 1A fuse and install new NVLD service kit.

(2) Fuse closed - Install rear seat cushion, connect battery and discontinue this article. Refer to Powertrain Control/Emission Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual, pinpoint test HZ, for normal diagnostics.

5. Install rear seat cushion. Refer to WSM, Section 501-10.

6. Connect battery. Refer to WSM, Section 414-01.
