Pinpoint Test P: The Heated Seat Does Not Operate Correctly - Driver Seat Does Heat but the Heated Seat Indicator Does Not Illuminate
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 119, Climate Controlled Seats for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number
Normal Operation
Upon receiving a command from the HVAC module, the heated seat module decreases one setting (the sequence is high, low, off, high). The heated seat module supplies voltage to the HVAC module to operate the indicators. When the HVAC module receives voltage, it then sends a Controller Area Network (CAN) message to the Front Controls Interface Module (FCIM) to illuminate the appropriate indicators. The high indicator circuit can be inoperative and both indicators still cycle correctly. When a heated seat is set to high, both indicators on the heated seat control button illuminate. When a heated seat is set to low, only the lower indicator illuminates. When a heated seat is set to off, neither is illuminated.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Heated seat module
- FCIM
- HVAC module
PINPOINT TEST P: THE HEATED SEAT DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY - DRIVER SEAT DOES HEAT BUT THE HEATED SEAT INDICATOR DOES NOT ILLUMINATE
NOTE: The air bag warning indicator illuminates when the correct Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON.
NOTE: The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

P1 CHECK INDICATOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of Supplemental Restraint System Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering.
- Disconnect: Passenger Seat Side Air Bag C3137.
- Disconnect: Passenger Safety Belt Buckle Pretensioner C3066.
- Disconnect: HVAC Module C228B.
- Disconnect: Heated Seat Module C359A.
- WARNING: Make sure no one is in the vehicle and there is nothing blocking or placed in front of any air bag module when the battery is connected. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury in the event of an accidental deployment.
- Connect the battery ground cable. Refer to Battery, Mounting and Cables Battery Disconnect.
- Measure the resistance between:
- HVAC module C228B-7, circuit CHS04 (YE/GY), harness side and ground.
- HVAC module C228B-6, circuit CHS13 (VT/BN), harness side and ground.
- Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
GO to P2.
No
REPAIR the affected circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
DISCONNECT the battery ground cable.
CONNECT passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3066.
CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C3137.
REPOWER the SRS. REFER to Supplemental Restraint System Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering.
-------------------------------------------------
P2 CHECK INDICATOR CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between:
- HVAC module C228B-7, circuit CHS04 (YE/GY), harness side and heated seat module C359a-4, circuit CHS04 (YE/GY), harness side.
- HVAC module C228B-6, circuit CHS13 (VT/BN), harness side and heated seat module C359a-5, circuit CHS13 (VT/BN), harness side.
- Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to P3.
No
REPAIR the affected circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
DISCONNECT the battery ground cable.
CONNECT passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3066.
CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C3137.
REPOWER the SRS. REFER to Supplemental Restraint System Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering.
-------------------------------------------------
P3 CHECK THE HVAC MODULE OUTPUT
- Connect: HVAC Module C228B.
- Connect: Heated Seat Module C359A.
- Start the engine.
- NOTE: The following measurement must be taken by back-probing heated seat module C359A.
- NOTE: There should be no voltage on circuit CHS04 (YE/GY) when the driver seat side of the heated seat module is off. When the heated seat module is commanded on, voltage on circuit CHS04 (YE/GY) should drop momentarily each time the driver heated seat control button is pressed.
- Measure the voltage between heated seat module C359A-4, circuit CHS04 (YE/GY), harness side and ground by back-probing heated seat module C359A-4. Press the driver heated seat control button and note the voltage.
- Is there less than 1 volt when the heated seat module is off and greater than 10 volts when the driver heated seat module is in low or high mode?
Yes
INSTALL a new HVAC module. REFER to Climate Control Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) Module.
TEST the system for normal operation.
DISCONNECT the battery ground cable.
CONNECT passenger safety belt buckle pretensioner C3066.
CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C3137.
REPOWER the SRS. REFER to Supplemental Restraint System Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering.
No
INSTALL a new heated seat module. REFER to Heated Seat Module - Front Heated Seat Module - Front.
TEST the system for normal operation.
DISCONNECT the battery ground cable.
CONNECT passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3066.
CONNECT passenger seat side air bag module C3137.
REPOWER the SRS. REFER to Supplemental Restraint System Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering.
