Pinpoint Test F: The Satellite Radio Is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 130, Audio System for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

The Satellite Digital Audio Receiver System (SDARS) module receives voltage at all times. Digital audio signals are received by the satellite radio antenna and sent to the SDARS module, which routes the signals to the audio unit.

The SDARS module receives a wake-up signal from the audio unit through a dedicated Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN). The MS-CAN is dedicated to only the audio unit and the SDARS module. In the event of a network failure, the SDARS module never receives the wake-up signal and as a result, is inoperative.

- DTC U0184 (Lost Communication With Radio ( ACM)) - set by the SDARS module when it loses communication with the audio unit for greater than 5 seconds over the dedicated MS-CAN bus.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- SDARS module
- Audio unit

PINPOINT TEST F: THE SATELLITE RADIO IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY

NOTICE: For the CD6 audio unit, the audio unit must be placed in shipment mode before removal. Refer to Audio Unit Shipment Mode. Failure to follow this instruction may result in damage to the audio unit. Audio Unit Shipment Mode

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

F1 VERIFY AN ACTIVE SUBSCRIPTION

- Ignition ON.
- Enter satellite mode on the audio unit and observe the display.
- Does the display read CALL SIRIUS?

Yes
The subscription has expired. INFORM the customer to contact Sirius to re-activate the subscription.

No
GO to F2.

-------------------------------------------------
F2 CHECK THE SDARS MODULE DTCs

- Carry out the SDARS module self-test.
- Is DTC U0184 present?

Yes
REFER to Module Communications Network Testing and Inspection, The SDARS Module Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool, to test the circuitry of the dedicated audio MS-CAN.

No
GO to F3.

-------------------------------------------------
F3 CHECK THE SDARS MODULE OPERATION

- Carry out the satellite bezel diagnostic self-test.
- Are alternating LH/RH tones audible?

Yes
GO to F6.

No
GO to F4.

-------------------------------------------------
F4 CHECK THE AUDIO CIRCUITS TO THE SDARS MODULE FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Audio Unit C290c.
- Disconnect: SDARS Module C2358.
- Ignition ON.
- Measure the voltage between the SDARS module, harness side and ground as follows:

- Is any voltage present?

Yes
REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to F5.

-------------------------------------------------
F5 CHECK THE AUDIO CIRCUITS TO THE SDARS MODULE FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND

- Ignition OFF.
- Measure the resistance between the audio unit, harness side and the SDARS module, harness side; and between the audio unit, harness side and ground as follows:

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between the audio unit and the SDARS module, and greater than 10,000 ohms between the audio unit and ground?

Yes
GO to F6.

No
REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
F6 CHECK FOR CORRECT SDARS MODULE OPERATION

- Ignition OFF.
- Install a new SDARS module. Refer to Satellite Digital Audio Receiver System (SDARS) Module Satellite Digital Audio Receiver System (SDARS) Module.
- Operate the audio system in satellite radio mode.
- Does the system operate correctly?

Yes
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.

No
INSTALL a new audio unit. REFER to Audio Unit Audio Unit. TEST the system for normal operation.
