Brake Pedal and Bracket
NOTE: Automatic transmission shown, manual transmission similar.
Removal and Installation
All vehicles
1. NOTICE: Do not service the brake pedal or brake booster without first removing the stoplamp switch and speed control deactivator switch. These switches must be removed with the brake pedal in the at-rest position. Switch plungers must be compressed for the switch to rotate in the bracket. Attempting to remove the switch when the plunger is extended (during pedal apply) will result in damage to the switch.
Remove the stoplamp switch. For additional information, refer to Exterior Lighting Service and Repair.
2. If equipped, remove the speed control deactivator switch. For additional information, refer to Cruise Control Cruise Control Deactivator Switch.
Manual transmission
3. Disconnect the Clutch Pedal Position (CPP) switch.
4. NOTE: The clutch pedal master cylinder push rod retaining clip is not reusable.
Disconnect the clutch pedal master cylinder push rod.
5. Remove the clutch master cylinder from the brake and clutch pedal bracket by rotating it 45 degrees clockwise.
All vehicles
6. Remove the bulkhead sound insulator.
7. Remove the 2 brake pedal bracket bolts.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
8. NOTICE: Support the brake master cylinder and power brake booster in the engine compartment or damage to components may occur.
Remove the 4 brake pedal bracket nuts and remove the brake pedal and bracket.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
9. NOTICE: Do not press, pull or otherwise move the brake pedal while installing the stoplamp switch or the speed control deactivator switch. These switches must be installed with the booster push rod attached to the brake pedal and with the brake pedal in the at-rest position. Installing these switches with the brake pedal in any other position will result in incorrect adjustment and may damage the switches.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
