Pinpoint Test AE: The Headlamp On Warning Chime Does Not Operate Correctly

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 60, Instrument Cluster for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

The headlamp on warning chime alerts the driver that the headlamps or parking lamps are on, the ignition switch is in the OFF position, and the driver door is opened. The Instrument Cluster (IC) uses the headlamps or parking lamps on signal from the illumination input, the ignition RUN/START position status (operational mode of the cluster) and the driver door ajar input circuit. When the IC receives all 3 inputs, the instrument cluster sounds the headlamps on warning chime.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- IC

PINPOINT TEST AE: THE HEADLAMP ON WARNING CHIME DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY

AE1 CHECK THE DOOR AJAR WARNING INDICATOR

- Ignition ON.
- With the driver door opened, observe the door ajar warning indicator.
- Does the door ajar warning indicator operate correctly?

Yes
GO to AE2.

No
GO to Pinpoint Test U. Pinpoint Test U: The Door Ajar Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On

AE2 VERIFY THE IC ILLUMINATION OPERATES CORRECTLY

- Place the headlamp switch in the HEADLAMPS or PARKING LAMPS ON position.
- Does the IC panel illumination operate correctly?

Yes
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REFER to Instrument Cluster and Panel Illumination Testing and Inspection to continue diagnosis of the IC illumination.
