Pinpoint Test A: Both Headlamps Are Inoperative (High Beams And Low Beams)

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 85, Headlamps/Autolamps for schematic and connector information. Diagrams By Number

Normal Operation

The Smart Junction Box (SJB) provides voltage to the multifunction switch and the headlamp switch at all times. When the headlamp switch is placed in the HEADLAMPS ON position, the voltage is routed to the multifunction switch for the headlamp operation.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Fuse
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Headlamp switch
- Multifunction switch
- SJB

PINPOINT TEST A: BOTH HEADLAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE (HIGH BEAMS AND LOW BEAMS)

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

-------------------------------------------------
A1 CHECK THE FLASH-TO-PASS FEATURE

- Ignition OFF.
- Check the operation of the flash-to-pass feature.
- Does the flash-to-pass feature operate correctly?

Yes
GO to A2.

No
VERIFY the SJB fuse 23 (30A) is OK. If OK, GO to A6. If not OK, REFER to the Wiring Diagrams to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. Diagrams By Number

-------------------------------------------------
A2 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE HEADLAMP SWITCH

- Disconnect: Headlamp Switch C205.
- Measure the voltage between the headlamp switch C205-6, circuit SBP23 (WH/RD), harness side and ground.

- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
GO to A4.

No
GO to A3.

-------------------------------------------------
A3 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

- Disconnect: SJB C2280b.
- Measure the resistance between the headlamp switch C205-6, circuit SBP23 (WH/RD), harness side and the SJB C2280b-4, circuit SBP23 (WH/RD), harness side.

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

Yes
GO to A6.

No
REPAIR circuit SBP23 (WH/RD) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
A4 BYPASS THE HEADLAMP SWITCH

- Connect a fused jumper wire between the headlamp switch C205-6, circuit SBP23 (WH/RD), harness side and the headlamp switch C205-1, circuit CLS24 (BN/WH), harness side.

- Do the headlamps illuminate?

Yes
REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new headlamp switch. REFER to Headlamp Switch Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
LEAVE the jumper wire connected. GO to A5.

-------------------------------------------------
A5 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH

- Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202b.
- Measure the voltage between the multifunction switch C202b-8, circuit CLS24 (BN/WH), harness side and ground.

- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to Steering Column Switches Steering Column Multifunction Switch. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REMOVE the jumper wire. REPAIR circuit CLS24 (BN/WH) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
A6 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION

- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins

- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
