Main Control Valve Body

















Removal

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Jacking and Lifting Service and Repair.

2. NOTE: If equipped, the transmission servo heat shield needs to be unclipped from the transmission fluid pan rail and positioned aside for transmission fluid pan removal.

If equipped, loosen the nut and position the heat shield aside.





3. Drain transmission fluid.
- Remove all the transmission fluid pan screws except for 2 in the front. Loosen the 2 front transmission fluid pan screws. Pry the rear of the transmission fluid pan down and allow fluid to drain. After fluid is drained, remove the front 2 transmission fluid pan screws.





4. NOTE: The transmission fluid pan gasket is reusable. Clean and inspect for damage, if not damaged, the gasket should be reused.

Remove the transmission fluid pan.

1. Remove the transmission fluid pan.

2. Remove the transmission fluid pan gasket.





5. Remove and discard the transmission fluid filter.

1. Remove the transmission fluid filter screw.

2. Remove the transmission fluid filter.





6. Unclip main control valve body wire harness.
- Lift up on wire harness guide and protector and disengage the retaining pins from the solenoid clamps.





7. Disconnect the 6 solenoid electrical connectors.

1. Disconnect the Shift Solenoid A (SSA), Shift Solenoid B (SSB), Shift Solenoid C (SSC) and Shift Solenoid D (SSD) electrical connectors.

2. Disconnect the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid electrical connector.

3. Disconnect the Electronic Pressure Control (EPC) solenoid electrical connector.





8. Remove the manual control valve detent lever spring.

1. Remove the manual control valve detent lever spring screw.

2. Remove the manual control valve detent lever spring.





9. Remove the low/reverse servo.

1. Remove the low/reverse servo cover screws.

2. Remove the low/reverse band servo cover and gasket. Discard the low/reverse servo separator plate cover gasket.





10. Remove the low/reverse band servo piston and rod.





11. Do not remove the 2 (gold) screws specified.





12. NOTICE: Support the main control valve body until all of the screws are removed, otherwise damage to the main control valve body can occur.

Remove the screws.





13. Remove the main control valve body.

Installation

1. Install the Valve Body Aligners into the transmission case.





2. Position the main control valve body, using the Valve Body Aligners as a guide.





3. NOTE: The main control valve body screws will be tightened in later steps.

Loosely install 4 M6 x 45 mm (1.771 in) screws.





4. NOTE: The main control valve body screws will be tightened in later steps.

Loosely install 2 M6 x 35 mm (1.377 in) screws.





5. Remove the Valve Body Aligners.

6. NOTE: The main control valve body screws will be tightened in later steps.

Loosely install the M6 x 30 mm (1.181 in) screw.





7. NOTE: The main control valve body screws will be tightened in later steps.

Loosely install the 16 M6 x 40 mm (1.574 in) main control valve body screws.





8. Tighten the main control valve body screws in the sequence shown.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).





9. Rotate the manual lever into the NEUTRAL position.

10. Install the manual control valve detent lever spring.

1. Position the manual control valve detent lever spring.

2. Install the manual control valve detent lever spring screw.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).





11. Install the low/reverse band servo piston and rod.





12. Install the low/reverse band servo cover.

1. Install the low/reverse band servo cover and gasket.

2. Loosely install the low/reverse servo piston cover screws.





13. Tighten the low/reverse band servo cover screws in the sequence shown.
- Tighten to 13 Nm (115 lb-in).





14. Connect the 6 solenoid electrical connectors.

1. Connect SSA, SSB, SSC and SSD electrical connectors.

2. Connect the TCC solenoid electrical connector.

3. Connect the EPC solenoid electrical connector.





15. NOTICE: Excessive pressure may break the locating pins.

Install the main control valve body wire harness.

- Align the retaining pins to the holes in the solenoid clamps and press in the main control valve body wire harness guide and protector.





16. NOTICE: Lubricate fluid filter O-ring seals with transmission fluid or they may be damaged.

Lubricate and install new O-ring seals onto the transmission fluid filter.





17. Install the transmission fluid filter.

1. Position the transmission fluid filter on the main control valve body.

2. Install the transmission fluid filter screw.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).





18. NOTE: The transmission fluid pan gasket is reusable. Clean and inspect for damage, if not damaged, the gasket should be reused.

Install the transmission fluid pan.

1. Position the transmission fluid pan gasket on the transmission fluid pan.

2. Install and align the transmission fluid pan.





19. Loosely install the transmission fluid pan screws.





20. Tighten the transmission fluid pan screws in a crisscross pattern.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).





21. If equipped, position the servo heat shield over the servos and clip it to the pan rail.
- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).





22. NOTE: Start with a minimum of 3.7L (4 qt) transmission fluid.

Fill transmission with transmission fluid to the correct fluid level.
