Removal

1. Remove the transfer case. For additional information, refer to Transfer Case Removal and Replacement.

2. Remove the wire harness locators from the extension housing wire bracket.

3. Remove the insulator and retainer nuts.

4. Raise and support the transmission.

5. Remove the 6 extension housing screws and studs.

6. NOTE: The park pawl, park pawl return spring and park pawl shaft may fall out during removal of the extension housing.

Remove the extension housing. Discard the extension housing gasket.

Installation

1. Clean the extension housing and install a new extension housing gasket. Make sure that the park pawl, spring and shaft are correctly installed.





2. NOTE: Make sure the park lever actuating rod is correctly seated in the case park rod guide cup.

Position the extension housing and install the 6 extension housing screws and studs.

- Tighten to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft).

3. Install the insulator into the crossmember.
- Tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).

4. Install the wire harness locators from the extension housing wire bracket.

5. Install the transfer case. For additional information, refer to Transfer Case Removal and Replacement.

6. Check the transmission fluid level, add transmission fluid as necessary. Check for correct transmission operation.

7. Verify park operation. Be sure that the park assembly holds the vehicle stationary when the selector lever is in the PARK position.
