Axle Assembly
Removal and Installation
1. Remove the front halfshafts. For additional information, refer to Front Drive Halfshafts Front Drive Halfshafts.
2. Remove the front driveshaft. For additional information, refer to Driveshaft Removal and Replacement.
3. NOTE: Use the Axle Service Plugs to plug the axle openings.
Secure the axle housing to a suitable hydraulic jack.
4. Remove and discard the 3 axle-to-frame bolts.
- To install, using new bolts, tighten to 66 Nm (49 lb-ft).
5. Disconnect the vent hose from the front axle housing.
6. Lower the axle 25 mm (1 in) and move to the right 19 mm (0.75 in).
7. Lower the axle from the vehicle.
8. NOTE: Install a new retainer circlip on the left inboard CV joint housing. If reinstalling the original axle housing, install a new retainer circlip on the right side.
NOTE: Make sure the halfshaft circlips fully seat.
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Fill the front axle with the correct type and quantity of lubricant. Refer to Specifications.
