Electrical - GEM Causes Battery Drain

BATTERY DRAIN - BUILT ON OR BEFORE 9/30/2010

2010-2011 Transit Connect
ISSUE
Some 2010-2011 Transit Connect vehicles built on or before 9/30/2010 may exhibit a drain on the 12V battery coming from the generic electronic module (GEM).
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 414-01 Battery, Cables and Mounting.
2. Perform the Component Test to check for excessive drain on the battery.
3. If disconnecting the GEM removes the excessive drain, proceed to Step 4. If not, continue with normal WSM diagnostics.
4. Reprogram the GEM to the latest calibration using IDS release 73.03 or later. This new calibration is not available on DVD 2011.5. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.
