Pinpoint Test AD: The Headlamps On Warning Chime Is Inoperative

Normal Operation

The Instrument Cluster (IC) receives the headlamp switch status from the hardwired headlamp switch input. The Generic Electronic Module (GEM) monitors the driver door ajar status and provides the IC with a messaged driver door ajar status over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) communication bus. The IC monitors both the hardwired headlamp switch PARK or HEADLAMP ON input and the messaged driver door ajar input. When the headlamps are left on with the key out of the ignition lock cylinder with the driver door open or ajar, the IC sounds the headlamps on warning chime.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Door ajar indication concern
- Exterior lighting concern
- IC


PINPOINT TEST AD: THE HEADLAMPS ON WARNING CHIME IS INOPERATIVE

AD1 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION WARNING CHIME OPERATION


- Ignition OFF.
- Place the key in the ignition lock cylinder.
- Open the driver door and monitor the key-in-ignition warning chime.
- Does the key-in-ignition warning chime sound?

Yes
GO to AD2.

No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.

AD2 CHECK THE EXTERIOR LAMPS OPERATION


- Place the headlamp switch in the PARKING LAMPS or HEADLAMP ON position.
- Does the instrument cluster illumination operate?

Yes
GO to AD3.

No
REFER to Exterior Lighting Testing and Inspection.

AD3 CHECK THE DOOR AJAR WARNING INDICATOR OPERATION


- Ignition ON.
- Open then close the LH front door while observing the door ajar warning indicator.
- Does the door ajar warning indicator operate correctly?

Yes
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to Pinpoint Test U. Pinpoint Test U: The Door Ajar Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On
