Pinpoint Test S: The Overdrive (O/D) Off Indicator Is Never/Always On

Normal Operation

The Instrument Cluster (IC) receives the Overdrive (O/D) off signal from the PCM over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus. When the O/D function is selected off, the PCM sends a message to the IC to illuminate the O/D OFF indicator.

If the O/D on/off message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the O/D OFF indicator remains in the last indication mode (on or off), based upon the last known good data message. If the O/D on/off message is missing or if the data is deemed invalid by the IC for more than 5 seconds, the IC sets DTC U0100 in continuous memory and defaults the O/D OFF indicator on.

NOTE: If DTC U0100 is set in the IC, other observable symptoms may be an inoperative speedometer, tachometer or odometer.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- O/D concern
- PCM
- IC

PINPOINT TEST S: THE O/D OFF INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

-------------------------------------------------
S1 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE O/D OFF FUNCTION

- Test drive the vehicle while turning the O/D function on and off.
- Does the O/D function correctly?

Yes
GO to S2.

No
REFER to Automatic Transaxle/Transmission - 4F27E Testing and Inspection.

-------------------------------------------------
S2 CARRY OUT THE IC INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IC DataLogger.
- Select the O/D OFF indicator (OVERDRV) active command. Command the O/D OFF indicator on and off. Observe the O/D OFF indicator.
- Does the O/D OFF indicator illuminate when commanded on, and turn off when commanded off?

Yes
GO to S3.

No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Service and Repair. TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
S3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IC DTCs from the self-test.
- Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
For DTC U0100, GO to Pinpoint Test AJ. Pinpoint Test AJ: DTC U0100

For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Charts. Diagnostic Trouble Code Tests and Associated Procedures
