Fuel Tank - Midship

Removal and Installation

WARNING: Do not smoke, carry lighted tobacco or have an open flame of any type when working on or near any fuel-related component. Highly flammable mixtures are always present and may be ignited. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.

WARNING: When handling fuel, always observe fuel handling precautions and be prepared in the event of fuel spillage. Spilled fuel may be ignited by hot vehicle components or other ignition sources. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury.

WARNING: Before working on or disconnecting any of the fuel tubes or fuel system components, relieve the fuel system pressure to prevent accidental spraying of fuel. Fuel in the fuel system remains under high pressure, even when the engine is not running. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.

2. Release the fuel system pressure.

3. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

4. Drain the fuel tank.

5. If connected, disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe hose.

6. Position a suitable jack under the fuel tank.

7. Remove the nut and the front fuel tank support strap.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).


8. Remove the nut and the rear fuel tank support strap.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).


9. Partially lower the fuel tank.

10. Disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe vent hose-to-fuel vapor tube quick connect coupling.

11. Disconnect the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister-to-engine vapor hose quick connect coupling.

12. Disconnect the EVAP (Evaporative Emission) canister fresh air hose from the EVAP (Evaporative Emission) canister.

13. Disconnect the EVAP (Evaporative Emission) canister vent solenoid electrical connector.

14. Remove the 3 nuts and the FP (Fuel Pump) module cover.
- To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb-in).


15. Disconnect the FP (Fuel Pump) module and Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) sensor electrical connectors.

16. Disconnect the fuel supply tube-to-FP (Fuel Pump) module quick connect coupling.

17. Lower the fuel tank.

18. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

19. Carry out the EVAP (Evaporative Emission) system leak test. Testing and Inspection
