Pinpoint Test F: One Or More Switch Illumination is Inoperative
Instrument Cluster and Panel Illumination
Pinpoint Test F: One Or More Switch Illumination is Inoperative
Normal Operation - Dimmable Backlighting
When the parking lamps are on, the Smart Junction Box (SJB) sends a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) voltage to the dimmable components.
Fixed Backlighting
When the accessory delay relay is energized, voltage is supplied to the door lock control switches.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Audio Control Module (ACM) (vehicles without navigation)
- Headlamp switch
- Climate control assembly
- Traction control switch
- Upfitter switches
- Door lock control switch
PINPOINT TEST F : ONE OR MORE SWITCH ILLUMINATION IS INOPERATIVE
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
F1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE SINGLE ILLUMINATION SOURCE
NOTE: If the headlamp switch illumination is the inoperative source, unplug the headlamp switch connector to measure the illumination circuit voltage. Unplugging the connector causes the SJB (Smart Junction Box) to turn the exterior lights on by default for 10 minutes, so it is unnecessary to turn on the headlamp switch.
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Inoperative Illumination Source.
- Ignition ON.
- For dimmable components, place the headlamp switch in the PARKING LAMPS ON position and rotate the instrument panel dimmer switch to the full illumination position.
- Measure the voltage between the inoperative illuminated component, harness side and ground as follows:
Component Connector-Pin Circuit ACM (Audio Control Module) C240A-3 VLN04 (VT/GY) Headlamp switch C205-1 VLN04 (VT/GY) Climate control assembly C294E-1 VLN04 (VT/GY) Traction control switch C280-3 VLN04 (VT/GY) Upfitter switches C2388-2 VLN04 (VT/GY) LH door lock control switch C505-2 CBP41 (BU) RH door lock control switch C605-2 CBP41 (BU) Rear door lock control switch C4121-5 CBP41 (BU)
Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
For the LH or RH front door lock control switch, INSTALL a new door lock control switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
For all others, GO to F2.
No
REPAIR the circuit in question for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
F2 CHECK THE GROUND CIRCUIT TO THE SINGLE ILLUMINATION SOURCE FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the voltage between the inoperative illuminated component, harness side as follows:
Component Connector-Pin/ Circuit Connector-Pin/ Circuit ACM (Audio Control Module) C240A-3 VLN04 (VT/GY) C240A-4 GD115 (BK/GY) Headlamp switch C205-1 VLN04 (VT/GY) C205-8 GD114 (BK/BU) Climate control assembly C294E-1 VLN04 (VT/GY) C294E-2 GD115 (BK/GY) Traction control switch (except stripped chassis) C280-3 VLN04 (VT/GY) C280-2 GD115 (BK/GY) Traction control switch (stripped chassis) C280-3 VLN04 (VT/GY) C280-2 GD133 (BK) Upfitter switches (except stripped chassis) C2388-2 VLN04 (VT/GY) C2388-3 GD115 (BK/GY) Upfitter switches (stripped chassis) C2388-2 VLN04 (VT/GY) C2388-3 GD133 (BK) Rear door lock control switch C4121-5 CBP41 (BU) C4121-3 GD149 (BK/GY)
Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
INSTALL a new component in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR the ground circuit for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
