Pinpoint Test AB: The Overdrive (O/D) Off Indicator Is Never/Always On
Normal Operation
The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives the O/D (Overdrive) off status from the Transmission Control Module (TCM) (part of the PCM) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus. When the O/D (Overdrive) function is selected off, the TCM (Transmission Control Module) sends a message to the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) to illuminate the O/D (Overdrive) off indicator.
If the O/D (Overdrive) off message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the O/D (Overdrive) off indicator remains in the last on/off state, based upon the last known good O/D (Overdrive) off message received.
If the O/D (Overdrive) off message is missing for more than 5 seconds, DTC U0101:00 sets in continuous memory and defaults the O/D (Overdrive) off indicator off.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Transmission concern
- PCM
- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)
PINPOINT TEST AB : THE O/D (Overdrive) OFF INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON
AB1 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE O/D (Overdrive) OFF FUNCTION
- Verify that the O/D (Overdrive) function operates correctly.
Does the O/D (Overdrive) function correctly?
Yes
GO to AB2.
No
REFER to Automatic Transmission/Transaxle &/or Transmission Control Systems.
AB2 CHECK THE O/D (Overdrive) OFF INDICATOR USING THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DEALER TEST MODE
- Ignition ON.
- Enter Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Dealer Test Mode.
- Scroll down to the telltale test (base IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)) or TELLTALE TEST (message center IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)) displays.
- Monitor the O/D (Overdrive) OFF indicator.
Is the O/D (Overdrive) OFF indicator illuminated?
Yes
GO to AB3.
No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
AB3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded DTCs from the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) self-test.
Is DTC U0101:00 recorded?
Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AV. Pinpoint Test AV: DTC U0101:00
No
GO to AB4.
AB4 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE TCM (Transmission Control Module) SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded TCM (Transmission Control Module) DTCs from the self-test.
Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes
REFER to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart in Body Control Systems. Body Control Systems
No
INSTALL a new PCM. TEST the system for normal operation.
