Pinpoint Test F : TSS (Turbine Shaft Speed) Sensor
Pinpoint Tests - OSC Equipped Vehicle
Pinpoint Tests
NOTE: Refer to all TSBs and On-Line Automotive Service Information System (OASIS) messages that pertain to the transmission concern and follow the procedure as described.
PINPOINT TEST F : TSS (Turbine Shaft Speed) SENSOR
NOTE: Refer to the Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) Sensor Harness Connector illustration within the Transmission Connector Layouts Transmission Connector Layouts procedure.
NOTE: Read and record all DTCs.
F1 ELECTRONIC DIAGNOSIS
- Select PARK.
- Ignition OFF.
- Check to make sure the transmission vehicle harness C1472 and the Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS) sensor C143 is fully seated, the terminals are fully engaged in the connector and are in good condition before proceeding.
- Connect the scan tool.
- Ignition ON.
- Access the transmission PIDs.
Is the scan tool able to access the transmission PIDs?
Yes
GO to F2.
No
REPEAT procedure to access the transmission PIDs. If the scan tool did not access the transmission PIDs, REFER to Computers and Control Systems Information for diagnosis of PCM.
F2 DRIVE CYCLE TEST
- While monitoring the TSS PID, drive the vehicle so that the transmission upshifts and downshifts through all gears.
Does the TSS PID increase and decrease with engine and vehicle speed?
Yes
REFER to Diagnosis By Symptom Diagnosis By Symptom for concern diagnosis.
No
If the TSS PID does not increase and decrease with engine and vehicle speed or if the sensor signal is erratic or the sensor signal is consistent/unchanging output, GO to F3.
F3 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION VEHICLE HARNESS FOR OPENS
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: PCM C175T.
- Disconnect: TSS (Turbine Shaft Speed) sensor C143.
- Measure the resistance between the PCM C175T and the TSS (Turbine Shaft Speed) sensor C143, harness side using the following table.
TSS (Turbine Shaft Speed) Terminal Circuit Number PCM Terminal C143-1 VET33 (WH/OR) C175T-37 C143-2 RE406 (GY/VT) C175T-40
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to F4.
No
REPAIR the transmission vehicle harness circuit for an open. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
F4 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION VEHICLE HARNESS FOR SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between PCM C175T-37, circuit VET33 (WH/OR), harness side and ground.
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
GO to F5.
No
REPAIR the transmission vehicle harness circuit VET (WH/OR) for a short to ground. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
F5 CHECK RESISTANCE OF THE TSS (Turbine Shaft Speed) SENSOR
- Measure the resistance between the TSS (Turbine Shaft Speed) sensor terminals 1 and 2, component side.
Is the resistance within 480-590 ohms at 25°C (77°F)?
Yes
REPLACE the PCM. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPLACE the TSS (Turbine Shaft Speed) sensor. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
