Pinpoint Test AD: The Door Ajar Message Center Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On

Normal Operation

The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) receives the door ajar status for the LH front, RH front, LH rear and RH rear and the liftgate ajar switches from the Body Control Module (BCM) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN). When the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) receives a door ajar indication request from the BCM (Body Control Module) that one or more doors are open or ajar, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) illuminates the appropriate door ajar message center warning indicator.

If the door ajar indication request message is missing for less than 5 seconds, the door ajar indication remains in its last indication state (on or off) based upon the last known good message received. If the door ajar status message is missing for 5 seconds or longer, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) sets DTC U0140:00 and defaults the door ajar message center warning indicator active (on).

NOTE: If DTC U0140:00 sets in the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster), other symptoms may also be present such as high beam indicator, RH/LH turn indicators, instrument panel backlighting and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Interior lighting concern

- BCM (Body Control Module)

- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST AD : THE DOOR AJAR MESSAGE CENTER WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

AD1 VERIFY THE OPERATION OF THE WRENCH AND ENGINE OVER-TEMPERATURE MESSAGE CENTER WARNING INDICATORS

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: PCM C175B.

- Ignition ON.

- NOTE: If multiple warnings are present, the message center indicators rotate through each of the warnings. Allow the displays to rotate through each display while determining whether the powertrain malfunction (wrench) and over-temperature message center warning indicator is active.
Observe the message center or integrated display area of the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) with the PCM connected and disconnected.

Do the powertrain malfunction (wrench) and engine over-temperature warning message center indicators remain off when the PCM is connected and become active with the PCM disconnected?

Yes
GO to AD2.

No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.

AD2 CHECK THE INTERIOR LIGHTING OPERATION

- Open and close each door while monitoring the interior lamps.

Do the interior lamps operate correctly with each door?

Yes
GO to AD3.

No
REFER to Lighting and Horns.

AD3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DTCs from the continuous self-test.

Is DTC U0140:00 recorded?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AU Pinpoint Test AU: DTC U0140:00.

No
GO to AD4.

AD4 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE BCM (Body Control Module) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded BCM (Body Control Module) DTCs from the self-test.

Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
REFER to the Body Control Module (BCM) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart in Body Control Systems. Body Control Systems

No
INSTALL a new BCM (Body Control Module). TEST the system for normal operation.
