Pinpoint Test Z: The Power Seat is Inoperative/Does Not Operate Correctly - Right Rear, Power Fold

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 120, Power Seats for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.

Normal Operation

The rear seat release relay, located in the Battery Junction Box (BJB), is controlled by the Body Control Module (BCM). The BCM (Body Control Module) activates the rear seat release relay by providing voltage to the coil side for 30 minutes after turning the vehicle off, when the transmission selector is in PARK and the liftgate is open. Ground is provided at all times to the other side of the coil. When the rear seat release relay is activated, voltage is supplied to the rear power seat release switch. When the rear power seat release switch is activated, voltage is supplied to the appropriate rear seat release actuator, left or right, to allow folding of that seat. If the rear seat release relay has been deactivated after 30 minutes, it can be reactivated as long as the transmission is in PARK by opening any door, pressing the unlock key on the key fob, pressing any keyless keypad button or cycling the ignition.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Wiring, terminals or connectors

- Rear power seat release switch

- Right power-fold seat actuator

- Rear seat release relay

PINPOINT TEST Z : THE POWER SEAT IS INOPERATIVE/DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY - RIGHT REAR, POWER FOLD

Z1 CHECK RH SEAT OPERATION

- Ignition ON.

- Select NEUTRAL.

- Press the rear power seat release switch to release the right side backrest.

Does the RH seat operate all the time?

Yes
GO to Z2.

No
GO to Z3.

Z2 CHECK THE REAR POWER SEAT RELEASE SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: Rear Seat Release Relay.

- Disconnect: Rear Power Seat Release Switch C4351.

- Ignition ON.

- Measure the voltage between rear power seat release switch C4351-2, circuit CPS58 (WH/BN), harness side to ground.






Is any voltage present?

Yes
REPAIR circuit CPS58 (WH/BN). TEST the system for normal operation.

No
INSTALL a new rear seat release relay. TEST the system for normal operation.

Z3 CHECK THE REAR POWER SEAT RELEASE SWITCH

- Select PARK.

- Ignition OFF.

- Gain access to the rear power seat release switch C4351.

- Back probe for voltage between rear power seat release switch C4351-5, circuit CPS57 (GY/BN), harness side and ground.

- NOTE: If the relay is disabled after 30 minutes, it can be enabled by opening any door, pressing the unlock key on the key fob, pressing any keyless keypad button or turning the ignition key.
While back probing for voltage, press the rear power seat release switch to release the right side backrest.


Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the rear power seat release switch is pressed?

Yes
GO to Z4.

No
INSTALL a new rear power seat release switch. REFER to Seat Control Switch - Rear Seat . TEST the system for normal operation.

Z4 CHECK THE POWER-FOLD ACTUATOR POWER CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

- Disconnect: Right Power-Fold Actuator C3334.

- Measure the voltage between right power-fold actuator C3334-1, circuit CPS57 (GY/BN), harness side and ground while pressing the rear power seat release switch to release the right side backrest.






Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the rear power seat release switch is pressed?

Yes
GO to Z5.

No
REPAIR circuit CPS57 (GY/BN). TEST the system for normal operation.

Z5 CHECK THE POWER-FOLD ACTUATOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

- Measure the voltage between right power-fold actuator C3334-1, circuit CPS57 (GY/BN), harness side and C3334-2, circuit GD151 (BK/GN), harness side while pressing the rear power seat release switch to release the right side backrest.






Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the rear power seat release switch is pressed?

Yes
INSTALL a new right power-fold actuator. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REPAIR the circuit GD151 (BK/GN). TEST the system for normal operation.
