Pinpoint Test AM: The Headlamps On Warning Chime Is Inoperative

Normal Operation

The Body Control Module (BCM) receives the driver door ajar status from the driver door ajar switch through hardwired circuitry and the headlamp switch status from the Front Lighting Control Module (FLM) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN). The BCM (Body Control Module) monitors the ignition mode, door ajar input from the LH front door and the headlamp switch status and sends the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) a headlamp on chime request when the headlamp switch is in the HEADLAMP or PARK position with the ignition OFF.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Interior lighting concern

- BCM (Body Control Module)

- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST AM : THE HEADLAMPS ON WARNING CHIME IS INOPERATIVE

AM1 CHECK THE SAFETY BELT WARNING CHIME OPERATION

- Ignition OFF.

- Ignition ON.

- Monitor the safety belt warning chime when the ignition switch is transitioned from OFF to RUN for 6 seconds.

Does the safety belt warning chime operate for approximately 6 seconds?

Yes
GO to AM2.

No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.

AM2 CHECK THE INTERIOR LAMPS OPERATION

- Open and close the driver door.

- Observe the interior lamps.

Do the interior lamps operate correctly from the driver door?

Yes
GO to AM3.

No
REFER to Lighting and Horns.

AM3 CHECK THE KEY-IN-IGNITION WARNING CHIME OPERATION

- Ignition OFF.

- Insert the key into the ignition lock cylinder.

- Open the LH front door and observe the key-in-ignition warning chime operation.

Does the key-in-ignition warning chime operate correctly?

Yes
GO to AM4.

No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.

AM4 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DTCs from the self-test.

Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
For DTC U0140:00, GO to Pinpoint Test AU Pinpoint Test AU: DTC U0140:00.

For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Chart Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes.

No
GO to AM5.

AM5 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE BCM (Body Control Module) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded BCM (Body Control Module) DTCs from the self-test.

Are any DTCs recorded?

Yes
REFER to Body Control Systems.

No
INSTALL a new BCM (Body Control Module). TEST the system for normal operation.
