Pinpoint Test K: The All-Wheel Drive (AWD) Gauge Is Inoperative
Normal Operation
The All-Wheel Drive (AWD) gauge displays the level of torque applied to each wheel in a bar graph depicted over the vehicle. The Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) uses two inputs to determine the AWD (All-Wheel Drive) gauge display. The first is an engine torque message sent from the PCM over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN). The second is an AWD (All-Wheel Drive) torque message sent from the PCM to the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) over the HS-CAN (High Speed Controller Area Network).
As torque is applied to the wheels, the bars in the display begin to light up. The lowest torque displayed is the first bar closest to the wheel. As the amount of torque increases, additional bars are turned on outward from the wheel
If the engine torque data is missing for 5 seconds or less or if the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) receives invalid torque data for 5 seconds or less, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) defaults the bar graphs in the display off.
If the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) does not receive the engine torque data from the PCM for more than 5 seconds, the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) sets DTC U0100:00 in continuous memory and defaults the bar graphs in the display off.
NOTE: If DTC U0100:00 sets in the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster), other observable symptoms may be an inoperative tachometer, temperature gauge or odometer.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) configuration
- AWD (All-Wheel Drive) concern
- IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster)
PINPOINT TEST K : THE AWD (All-Wheel Drive) GAUGE IS INOPERATIVE
K1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) DTCs from the self-test.
Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes
REFER to DTC Charts Instrumentation, Message Center and Warning Chimes.
No
GO to K2.
K2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE PCM SELF-TEST
- Check for recorded AWD (All-Wheel Drive) system PCM DTCs from the self-test.
Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes
For all other DTCs, REFER to Transfer Case.
No
GO to K3.
K3 CHECK THE DISPLAY MODE MENU
- On the optional IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster), in the display mode menu, press the LH steering wheel switch to the right to display the AWD (All-Wheel Drive) gauge.
- On the base IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster) (Edge only), in the Information display mode, press the LH steering wheel switch to the right then down to display the AWD (All-Wheel Drive) gauge.
Does the AWD (All-Wheel Drive) gauge display?
Yes
The AWD (All-Wheel Drive) gauge is operating correctly at this time. The display mode was not set to correct display mode.
No
INSTALL a new IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster). REFER to Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
