Pinpoint Test H: One Or More Demand Lamp Is Inoperative

Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 89, Interior Lamps for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.

Normal Operation

The Body Control Module (BCM) controls the operation of the battery saver relay. When the BCM (Body Control Module) is not in battery saver mode, the BCM (Body Control Module) supplies voltage to the demand lamps.

For detailed information of the battery saver feature, refer to Interior Lighting Interior Lighting.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Fuse

- Wiring, terminals or connectors

- Interior lamp

- BCM (Body Control Module)

PINPOINT TEST H : ONE OR MORE DEMAND LAMP IS INOPERATIVE

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

H1 CHECK THE COURTESY LAMP OPERATION

- Open the LH front door and observe the interior courtesy lamps.

Do the interior courtesy lamps illuminate?

Yes
GO to H2.

No
GO to Pinpoint Test C Pinpoint Test C: One Or More Interior Courtesy Lamp Is Inoperative.

H2 CHECK ALL THE DEMAND LAMPS

- Check the operation of all the demand (map and vanity mirror) lamps.

Are all the demand lamps inoperative?

Yes
VERIFY the BCM (Body Control Module) fuse 4 (10A) is OK. If OK, GO to H3. If not OK, REFER to the Wiring Diagrams to identify the possible causes of the circuit short Electrical Diagrams.

No
GO to H4.

H3 BYPASS THE BCM (Body Control Module)

- Disconnect: BCM (Body Control Module) C2280D.

- Connect a fused jumper wire between the BCM (Body Control Module) C2280D-22, circuit CLN09 (YE/GN), harness side and battery positive.

- Switch any demand lamp on.

Does the demand lamp illuminate when switched on?

Yes
REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to H6.

No
REMOVE the jumper wire. REPAIR circuit CLN09 (YE/GN) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

H4 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE LAMP

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: Inoperative Lamp.

- Ignition ON.

- Measure the voltage between the inoperative demand lamp, harness side and ground as follows:

Inoperative Lamp Connector-Pin Circuit LH vanity mirror C907-1 CLN09 (YE/GN) RH vanity mirror C906-1 CLN09 (YE/GN) Front interior/map (overhead console) C930-3 CLN09 (YE/GN) Rear interior/map C923-3 CLN09 (YE/GN) Glove compartment C254-1 CLN09 (YE/GN)

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
GO to H5.

No
REPAIR circuit CLN09 (YE/GN) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.

H5 CHECK THE DEMAND LAMP GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

- Measure the voltage between the inoperative lamp connector pins, harness side as follows:

Inoperative Lamp Connector-Pin Circuit Connector-Pin Circuit LH vanity mirror C907-1 CLN09 (YE/GN) C907-2 GD133 (BK) RH vanity mirror C906-1 CLN09 (YE/GN) C906-2 GD133 (BK) Front interior (overhead console) C930-3 CLN09 (YE/GN) C930-1 GD133 (BK) Rear interior C923-3 CLN09 (YE/GN) C923-2GD133 (BK) Glove compartment C254-1 CLN09 (YE/GN) C254-2 GD115 (BK/GY)

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
INSTALL a new lamp for the lamp in question. REFER to Interior Lamp . TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REPAIR the ground circuit for the lamp in question. TEST the system for normal operation.

H6 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (Body Control Module) OPERATION

- Disconnect all the BCM (Body Control Module) connectors.

- Check for:
- corrosion

- damaged pins

- pushed-out pins

- Connect all the BCM (Body Control Module) connectors and make sure they seat correctly.

- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new BCM (Body Control Module). TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
