Power Steering Pump: Service and Repair
Power Steering Pump - 3.5L, 3.7L
Removal
NOTICE: While repairing the power steering system, care should be taken to prevent the entry of foreign material or failure of the power steering components may result.
NOTE: Install a new pressure line clamp plate bolt.
All vehicles
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Using a suitable suction device, remove the power steering fluid from the fluid reservoir.
3. Remove the RH inner fender splash shield.
4. Position the Stretchy Belt Remover on the power steering pump belt as shown.
5. NOTE: Feed the Stretchy Belt Remover onto the power steering pump pulley approximately 90 degrees.
Turn the crankshaft clockwise and feed the Stretchy Belt Remover evenly on the power steering pump pulley as shown.
6. Remove the power steering pump belt.
- Fold the Stretchy Belt Remover under the inside of the power steering pump belt as shown.
- In one quick motion, firmly pull the Stretchy Belt Remover out through the RH fender well removing the power steering pump belt.
All-Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles
7. Remove the 4 bolts and position the driveshaft aside.
All vehicles
8. Using a suitable jack, support the rear of the subframe.
9. Remove the 2 nuts, 4 bolts and the subframe support brackets.
10. Remove the 2 middle subframe nuts.
11. Lower the rear of the subframe.
12. Release the clamp and disconnect the power steering pump supply hose from the power steering pump.
13. Remove and discard the pressure line clamp plate bolt and disconnect the pressure line from the pump.
14. Remove the 3 power steering pump bolts and the pump.
Installation
All vehicles
1. Position the power steering pump and install the 3 bolts.
- Tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).
2. Position the pressure line and install the new pressure line clamp plate bolt.
- Tighten to 26 Nm (19 lb-ft).
3. Connect the power steering pump supply hose and secure the clamp.
4. Using the a suitable jack, raise the rear of the subframe.
5. Install the 2 middle subframe nuts.
- Tighten to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft).
6. Install the 2 nuts, 4 bolts and the subframe support brackets.
- Tighten the nuts to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft).
- Tighten the bolts to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft).
All-Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles
7. Position the driveshaft and install the 4 bolts.
- Tighten to 70 Nm (52 lb-ft).
All vehicles
8. Remove the bolt and nut and the upper guide component of the Stretchy Belt Installer Tool.
9. Install the bolt and nut back onto the Stretchy Belt Installer Tool finger tight.
10. Position the power steering pump belt on the crankshaft pulley.
11. NOTE: After installation, make sure the power steering pump belt is correctly seated on the crankshaft and power steering pump pulleys.
Position the power steering pump belt around the Stretchy Belt Installer Tool and the power steering pump pulley. Make sure the power steering pump belt is engaged with the power steering pump pulley and rotate the crankshaft clockwise to install the power steering pump belt.
12. Install the RH inner fender splash shield.
13. Fill the power steering system.
