PINPOINT TEST E : TRANSMISSION SOLENOID POWER CONTROL CIRCUIT

NOTE: Refer to the transmission vehicle harness connector illustration Transaxle Connector Layouts .

E1 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE AT THE TRANSMISSION VEHICLE HARNESS CONNECTOR

NOTICE: Do not use a solenoid control circuit that may be at fault. Failure to jump pin 15 to a known good solenoid control circuit can cause incorrect diagnostic results. REFER to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Charts for a fault listing.

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: Transmission Vehicle Harness C168.

- Inspect the connector for damaged or pushed out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals.

- Using the chart, connect a fused jumper between one of the 7 solenoid control circuit pins on the transmission vehicle harness C168 and C168-15.

Transmission Vehicle Harness C168 Solenoid Control Circuit C168-13 Shift Solenoid A (SSA) CET05 (BU/GN) C168-16 Shift Solenoid B (SSB) CET06 (GN/BN) C168-17 Shift Solenoid C (SSC) CET07 (GY/OG) C168-12 Shift Solenoid D (SSD) CET08 (BN/WH) C168-1 Shift Solenoid E (SSE) CET18 (GY/YE) C168-18 Line Pressure Control (LPC) solenoid CET09 (YE/VT) C168-14 Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid CET10 (BU/GY)

- Ignition ON. Measure the voltage between C168-15 circuit CET49 (BN) harness side to ground.

Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

Yes
RECONNECT all components. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
GO to E2.

E2 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOID POWER CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

- Ignition OFF.

- Disconnect: TCM (Transmission Control Module) C1750.

- Measure the resistance between TCM (Transmission Control Module) C1750-2, circuit CET25 (BU/GN),harness side, and the Transmission C1520A-5, circuit CET25 (BU/GN), harness side.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

Yes
GO to E3.

No
REPAIR the circuit. RECONNECT all components. TEST the system for normal operation.

E3 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOID POWER CONTROL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

- Measure the resistance between C1520A-5, circuit CET25 (BU/GN), harness side and ground.

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

Yes
INSTALL a new TCM (Transmission Control Module). REFER to Transmission Control Module (TCM) . RECONNECT all components. TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REPAIR the circuit. RECONNECT all components. TEST the system for normal operation.

E4 CHECK THE SOLENOID BODY LEADFRAME FOR AN OPEN

- Remove the solenoid body leadframe. Solenoid Body Leadframe .

- Measure the resistance between C1520A-5, circuit CET25 (BU/GN), component side and pin 5 of each of the solenoid body leadframe solenoid connectors.

Is the resistance less than 5 ohms from the main connector to each solenoid?

Yes
GO to E5.

No
INSTALL a new solenoid body leadframe. REFER to Solenoid Body Leadframe .

E5 CHECK THE TRANSMISSION SOLENOIDS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

- Measure the resistance between pin 5 of each of the solenoid body leadframe solenoid connectors and ground.

Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

Yes
INSTALL the solenoid body leadframe. REFER to Solenoid Body Leadframe . INSTALL the main control cover. REFER to Main Control Cover . INSTALL a new TCM (Transmission Control Module). REFER to Transmission Control Module (TCM) .

No
REMOVE any shorted solenoids and INSTALL a new solenoid. REFER to Solenoids .
