Pinpoint Test I: Poor Image Quality
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 131 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
Normal Operation
With the ignition switch in the RUN position, the video camera receives voltage. For vehicles without navigation, with the gear selector in REVERSE (R) position, a reverse voltage signal is sent to the auto-dimming interior mirror. For vehicles with navigation, with the gear selector in REVERSE (R) position, a reverse signal is sent from the Instrument Cluster (IC) to the Audio Control Module (ACM) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN), enabling the system. The video signal from the video camera displays an image on the left portion of the auto-dimming interior mirror (for vehicles without navigation) or displays an image on the ACM (Audio Control Module) (for vehicles with navigation).
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Video camera
PINPOINT TEST I : POOR IMAGE QUALITY
NOTE: Failure to disconnect the battery when instructed will result in false resistance readings.
I1 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable.
- Disconnect: Video Camera C4234.
- Measure the resistance between the video camera C4234-6, circuit (BN/RD), harness side and ground.
Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to I2.
No
REPAIR the circuit. CONNECT the negative battery cable. TEST the system for normal operation.
I2 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND WITH THE AUTO-DIMMING INTERIOR MIRROR (WITHOUT NAVIGATION) OR ACM (Audio Control Module) (WITH NAVIGATION) DISCONNECTED
- Disconnect: Auto-Dimming Interior Mirror (Without Navigation) C9039 Or ACM (Audio Control Module) (With Navigation) C240D.
- Measure the resistance between the video camera C4234-4, circuit (RD), harness side and ground and video camera C4234-5, circuit (BK), harness side and ground.
Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
GO to I3.
No
REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
I3 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VIDEO SHIELD
- Measure the resistance between the video camera C4234-4, circuit (RD), harness side and video camera C4357-2, circuit (NONE), harness side.
- Measure the resistance between the video camera C4357-5, circuit (BK), harness side and video camera C4357-2, circuit (NONE), harness side.
Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
GO to I4.
No
REPAIR the circuit in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
I4 CHECK VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: Auto-Dimming Interior Mirror (Without Navigation) C9039.
- Disconnect: ACM (Audio Control Module) (With Navigation) C240D.
- Connect a fused jumper wire between the video camera C4234-4, circuit (RD), harness side and the video camera C4234-5, circuit (BK), harness side.
- For vehicles without navigation, measure the resistance between the auto-dimming interior mirror C9039-8, circuit VMP19 (WH/GN), harness side and the auto-dimming interior mirror C9039-16, circuit RMP19 (BN/VT), harness side.
- For vehicles with navigation, measure the resistance between the ACM (Audio Control Module) C240D-6, circuit RMP19 (BN/VT), harness side and the ACM (Audio Control Module) C240D-1, circuit VMP19 (WH/GN), harness side.
Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes
REMOVE the jumper wire. CARRY OUT the video camera component test Component Tests and General Diagnostics. If the camera is inoperative, INSTALL a new video camera. REFER to Video Camera . TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to I5.
I5 CHECK VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUIT (+) FOR AN OPEN
- For vehicles without navigation, measure the resistance between the auto-dimming interior mirror C9039-8, circuit VMP19 (WH/GN), harness side and the video camera C4234-4, circuit (RD), harness side.
- For vehicles with navigation, measure the resistance between the ACM (Audio Control Module) C240C-1, circuit VMP19 (WH/GN), harness side and the video camera C4357-4, circuit (RD), harness side.
Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes
REPAIR circuit RMP19 (BN/VT) or (BK). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
REPAIR circuit VMP19 (WH/GN) or (RD). TEST the system for normal operation.
