Anti-Theft

NOTE: The Integrated Keyhead Transmitter (IKT) key is a standard Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) key with a Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter incorporated into the keyhead. Refer to Antitheft and Alarm Systems for PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) information. for RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) information.

NOTE: The Smart Junction Box (SJB) is also known as the Generic Electronic Module (GEM).

The perimeter anti-theft system consists of the following:

- Door ajar switches (part of the door latch)

- Exterior lamps

- Hood switch (located on the left inner fender)

- Horn (located behind the LH headlamp)

- Key-in-ignition switch

- Keyless entry keypad

- Liftgate/liftgate glass ajar switches (part of the latches)

- RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter (part of the IKT (Integrated Keyhead Transmitter) key)

- SJB (Smart Junction Box) (located under the front passenger kick panel)

The perimeter anti-theft feature is controlled by the SJB (Smart Junction Box). The alarm can be armed by using 1 of 3 methods:

- Pressing the LOCK button on the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter (part of the IKT (Integrated Keyhead Transmitter) key)

- Pressing the door lock control switch to LOCK with the accompanying door open, then close the door

- Pressing the 7/8 and 9/0 buttons simultaneously on the keyless entry keypad (if equipped)

The SJB (Smart Junction Box) monitors the door ajar switches, the hood switch, and the liftgate/liftgate glass ajar switches (all doors, hood and the liftgate/liftgate glass must be closed and the key must be out of the ignition lock cylinder). There is a 20-second pre-arm delay after which each door and hood is armed. If a door or the hood is open, the system still arms all the other closures. Only the open door or hood remains disarmed until it is closed. When the open entry point is closed, that entry point enters a 20-second pre-arm delay, then arms.

In the event of an unauthorized entry, the alarm is activated by the SJB (Smart Junction Box). When the alarm is activated, the SJB (Smart Junction Box) intermittently grounds the horn relay, causing the horn to sound in regular intervals, and intermittently powers the turn signals, causing the turn signal lamps to flash in regular intervals (both occur simultaneously).

An unauthorized entry is identified by the SJB (Smart Junction Box) when a passenger door, hood, liftgate, or the liftgate glass ajar switch is detected by the SJB (Smart Junction Box) as having been opened and no electronic unlock function (RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter unlock button being pressed) was received. If this occurs, the SJB (Smart Junction Box) activates the perimeter alarm immediately.

An authorized entry is identified by the SJB (Smart Junction Box) as any of the ajar switches being opened after an electronic unlock command from a programmed RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter has been detected by the SJB (Smart Junction Box).

If the SJB (Smart Junction Box) detects the driver door ajar switch as being opened (with no electronic unlock command detected by the SJB (Smart Junction Box)), there is a 12-second delay with the Instrument Cluster (IC) issuing a chime. If a valid, programmed PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) key does not turn the ignition switch to the ON position within 12 seconds of the driver door ajar switch being detected as open, the SJB (Smart Junction Box) considers this event to be an unauthorized entry and activates the perimeter alarm.

The perimeter alarm can be disarmed only by:

- pressing the UNLOCK button on the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter (part of the IKT (Integrated Keyhead Transmitter) key).

- using a valid programmed PATS (Passive Anti-Theft System) key to turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

- entering the correct vehicle unlock code on the keyless entry keypad (if equipped).

The door lock control switches cannot disarm the perimeter alarm.

The perimeter alarm can be deactivated (not disarmed) by pressing the PANIC button on the RKE (Remote Keyless Entry) transmitter (part of the IKT (Integrated Keyhead Transmitter) key). This action will not disarm the alarm, but stops the alarm from activation (horn sounding and turn signal lamps flashing). The perimeter alarm continues to be armed.
