Pinpoint Test AK: The PARKING AID ON/OFF Message Is Inoperative

Normal Operation

The parking aid on/off status is sent from the Parking Aid Module (PAM) to the Instrument Cluster (IC) over the MS-CAN (Medium Speed Controller Area Network) communication bus lines. When the RESET button is pressed, the IC (Instrument Cluster) sends a query to the PAM (Parking Aid Module), requesting a system status. The PAM (Parking Aid Module) responds to the IC (Instrument Cluster) with the status of the system, either on or off. If the return status message is missing or corrupted, the IC (Instrument Cluster) does not display the brackets around either the ON or OFF selection.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- IC (Instrument Cluster) configuration

- Parking aid system

- IC (Instrument Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST AK : THE PARKING AID ON/OFF MESSAGE IS INOPERATIVE

AK1 VERIFY THAT THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH PARKING AID

- Check to confirm that the vehicle is equipped with parking aid.

Is the vehicle equipped with parking aid?

Yes
GO to AK2.

No
The message center does not provide the PARKING AID ON/OFF display.

AK2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC (Instrument Cluster) SELF-TEST

NOTE: The IC (Instrument Cluster) must be configured for parking aid for the parking aid on/off feature to be displayed in the message center. Parking aid configuration is not a customer preference item and must be configured as part of the Programmable Module Installation (PMI). If the IC (Instrument Cluster) is not configured correctly, DTC B2477 sets and the PMI (Programmable Module Installation) procedure must be repeated to accurately configure the IC (Instrument Cluster) for parking aid.

- Retrieve the recorded DTCs from the IC (Instrument Cluster) self-test.

Is DTC B2477 retrieved?

Yes
CARRY OUT the PMI (Programmable Module Installation) for the IC (Instrument Cluster). Programming and Relearning REFER to Information Bus.

No
GO to AK3.

AK3 CHECK THE PARKING AID SYSTEM OPERATION

- Operate the parking aid system and check for correct operation when the feature is selected on and off. Refer to the Owner's Literature for additional information on selecting the parking aid system on or off.

Does the parking aid system operate correctly when the feature is selected on then off?

Yes
GO to AK4.

No
REFER to Collision Avoidance and Parking Assist Systems.

AK4 CHECK THE PARKING AID DISPLAY IN THE MESSAGE CENTER

- Press the SETUP button repeatedly and verify that the IC (Instrument Cluster) displays PARKING AID ON OFF.

Does the message center display PARKING AID ON OFF?

Yes
GO to AK5.

No
INSTALL a new IC (Instrument Cluster). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.

AK5 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER ON/OFF DISPLAY

- Press the SETUP button until PARKING AID ON OFF is displayed.

Does the ON or OFF have the 〈> brackets around it indicating the desired selection?

Yes
PRESS the RESET button to allow the IC (Instrument Cluster) to query the parking aid module again.

If the display is still incorrect, REFER to Information Bus to diagnose no communication with the parking aid module.

No
The system is operating normally at this time. The problem may have been caused by a momentary loss of communication with the Parking Aid Module (PAM).
