Pinpoint Test A: The Courtesy Lamps Do Not Illuminate With A Door Open
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 117, Remote Keyless Entry and Alarm for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
Refer to Wiring Diagram Set 89 for schematic and connector information Electrical Diagrams.
Normal Operation
The Smart Junction Box (SJB) sends a voltage signal to the door ajar switches to monitor each door position. When the door is closed, the voltage signal is routed to ground. When a door is opened, the signal to ground is interrupted indicating an open door to the SJB (Smart Junction Box).
The SJB (Smart Junction Box) also monitors the courtesy dome defeat input by sending a voltage reference to the instrument panel dimmer switch. When the dome defeat is requested, the voltage signal is routed to ground. When the SJB (Smart Junction Box) detects this request, the courtesy lamps are not illuminated when a door (or liftgate) is opened.
This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:
- Wiring, terminals or connectors
- Door ajar switch
- Instrument panel dimmer switch
- SJB (Smart Junction Box)
PINPOINT TEST A : THE COURTESY LAMPS DO NOT ILLUMINATE WITH A DOOR OPEN
NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
A1 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE INTERIOR COURTESY LAMPS FROM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH
- Ignition OFF.
- Rotate the instrument panel switch to the DOME LAMP position and observe the interior courtesy lamps.
Do the interior courtesy lamps illuminate?
Yes
GO to A2.
No
GO to Pinpoint Test E. Pinpoint Test E: The Interior Courtesy Lamp(s) Are Inoperative
A2 CHECK THE DOME DEFEAT PID
- Ignition ON.
- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: SJB (Smart Junction Box) DataLogger.
- NOTE: The DOME_DEF PID should indicate All if the switch is in the DOME DEFEAT position and Undefined if it is not.
Monitor the SJB (Smart Junction Box) instrument panel dimmer switch PID (DOME_DEF).
Does the PID value indicate Undefined?
Yes
GO to A3.
No
GO to A5.
A3 CHECK THE AJAR SWITCH OPERATION
- Disconnect: Suspect Door Ajar Switch.
Do the courtesy lamps illuminate?
Yes
INSTALL a new door ajar switch in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to A4.
A4 CHECK THE DOOR AJAR SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Disconnect: SJB (Smart Junction Box) C2280C.
- Measure the resistance between the suspect door ajar switch, harness side and ground as follows:
Location Connector-Pin Circuit LH front C526-2 CPL26 (GN/VT) RH front C602-2 CPL31 (WH) LH rear C715-2 CPL36 (GN) RH rear C820-2 CPL36 (GN)
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
GO to A7.
No
REPAIR the circuit in question for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
A5 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DIMMER SWITCH
- Disconnect: Instrument Panel Dimmer Switch C2065.
Does the PID value indicate Undefined?
Yes
INSTALL a new instrument panel dimmer switch. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to A6.
A6 CHECK THE DOME DEFEAT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: SJB (Smart Junction Box) C2280B.
- Measure the resistance between the SJB (Smart Junction Box) C2280B-36, circuit VLN36 (GY/OG), harness side and ground.
Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
GO to A7.
No
REPAIR circuit VLN36 (GY/OG) for a short to ground. TEST the system for normal operation.
A7 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB (Smart Junction Box) OPERATION
- Disconnect all the SJB (Smart Junction Box) connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB (Smart Junction Box) connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new SJB (Smart Junction Box). TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
