ISSUE
Some 2012 Expedition and Navigator vehicles equipped with a 5.4L 3V engine, 6R80 transmission and built on or before 9/21/2011 may exhibit a rolling idle/idle speed variation on cold start. The idle speed could swing up and down by as much as 400 RPM in park or neutral or 150 RPM in drive or reverse typically for 15 to 20 seconds on cold start up.

ACTION
Reprogram the powertrain control module (PCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release 75.03A and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2011.9 DVD. Calibration files may also be obtained at the website.

PLEASE ADVISE THE CUSTOMER THAT THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION SHIFT STRATEGY WHICH ALLOWS THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER TO LEARN THE TRANSMISSION'S UNIQUE PARAMETERS AND IMPROVE SHIFT QUALITY. WHEN THE ADAPTIVE STRATEGY IS RESET, THE COMPUTER WILL BEGIN A RE-LEARNING PROCESS. THIS RE-LEARNING PROCESS MAY RESULT IN FIRMER THAN NORMAL UPSHIFTS AND DOWNSHIFTS FOR SEVERAL DAYS.
